The ICCT isĀ seekingĀ a self-motivated and dedicated Associate ResearcherĀ or ResearcherĀ to support a broad range of projects focused onĀ decarbonization of theĀ maritime sector,Ā includingĀ alternative fuels and climateĀ & health relatedĀ impact assessments. The position will have a strong emphasis on policy development within theĀ European UnionĀ and the International Maritime Organization. This is a full-time position based inĀ Germany, France, Sweden, or Ireland,Ā with the conditionĀ ofĀ spendingĀ at leastĀ theĀ firstĀ 6 monthsĀ in Berlin, Germany.Ā Ā

  • Conduct research onĀ theĀ European Union’s and IMO’sĀ goals and policies for decarbonizingĀ theĀ maritimeĀ shipping sector.Ā Ā 
  • Analyze energy use and emissions from domestic and international shipping, compare policy alternatives,Ā and develop recommendations to decarbonize maritime shipping and reduce air pollution.Ā 
  • Write clear and conciseĀ publicationsĀ to summarize ICCT’s research for both technical and non-technical audiences.Ā 
  • Present research findings internally andĀ externally.Ā 
  • Help organize outreach activities such as briefings, meetings, and workshops.Ā 
  • EngageĀ and collaborateĀ with external stakeholders, including government entities andĀ NGOs.Ā 
  • Review other colleagues’ work as well as consultants’ work on program projects.Ā

You HaveĀ 

  • Associate Researcher Level:Ā 
  • Bachelor’s degreeĀ orĀ higherĀ in engineering, transportation, economics, environmental science, public policy, orĀ a relatedĀ field.Ā 
  • Researcher Level:Ā Ā 
  • Master’s degree or higherĀ in engineering, transportation,Ā economics,Ā environmental science,Ā public policy,Ā orĀ aĀ relatedĀ field.Ā 
  • Familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in theĀ maritimeĀ shipping sectorĀ 
  • Associate Researcher or Researcher Level:Ā 
  • ExceptionalĀ quantitative, analytical, and research skills, with a demonstrated ability toĀ understandĀ highly technicalĀ information, draw policy-relevant conclusions, and communicateĀ recommendations toĀ decision-makers.Ā Ā 
  • Big data analysis or econometricĀ modelingĀ experienceĀ (preferred)Ā Ā 
  • AdvancedĀ proficiencyĀ in MS Office, especially Excel, andĀ strong programming experience in Python or similarĀ (preferred).Ā 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbalĀ 
  • Fluency inĀ English isĀ required;Ā fluency inĀ GermanĀ would be an asset.Ā

What we offer:Ā 
Our preference is for the candidate to work out of our office in the heart of Berlin, Germany. However, following
an initial minimumĀ 6-month orientation training in our Berlin office, we also provide the opportunity for the candidate to work from anywhere else within Germany, France, Ireland,Ā or Sweden, with the requirementĀ  to regularly visit the Berlin office. This position offers an annual starting salary of EURĀ 70,000Ā for Associate Researcher or EUR 84,000 for ResearcherĀ (40 hours/week if working from Germany), depending on your level of experience.Ā We offer an initial 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension depending on organizational resources and performance.
