Job Requirements (Principal Responsibilities)
Market-related
- Deliver EV, BESS, and battery market analysis for China, EMEA, APAC and the Americas on a regular basis.
- Update EV, BESS, and battery demand outlooks on a quarterly basis to reflect the latest market developments and impacts on the business.
- Use AI-enabled tools to track key battery raw material price trends and highlight implications for the business.
- Manage day-to-day interactions with multiple commodity data provider vendors, including coordination with their market analysts to ensure data quality, relevance, and timely insight delivery.
- Analyze company market share on an annual basis and identify share movement drivers.
- Evaluate and interpret market trends, customer needs, and cost dynamics to provide insight that enhances decision-making.
- Monitor emerging applications within the battery space, analyze market sizing, growth and penetration rates, regionally and globally.
Competitor-related
- Conduct competitor analysis, including capacity, investments, cost structure, and strategic positioning of key conductive carbon black and carbon nanotube powder or dispersion suppliers.
- Read, summarize, and synthesize key competitors’ annual reports, earnings calls, and public disclosures.
- Participate in external battery conferences and collect market intelligence on competitors, technologies, and emerging trends.
- Monitor competitive activity and translate findings into recommendations for commercial, product, and strategic actions.
Customer-related
- Build and maintain profiles of key customers, including annual GWh production, annual conductive additive demand, pricing, and strategic priorities.
- Use AI-enabled tools to track news and developments related to global key customers and share relevant updates in SFDC.
- Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships to stay current with changes in customer businesses, products, and needs.
Strategy-related
- Design and conduct special marketing studies as needed to support business strategy and strategic planning.
- On an annual basis, analyze and evaluate Cabot’s market data needs and identify opportunities to optimize data sources, improve analytical efficiency, and introduce innovative approaches that keep market intelligence capabilities up to date.
- Prepare reports and presentations that communicate market research findings, implications, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with business, marketing, and commercial leaders to develop and communicate market trends and market outlooks.
- Participate in and contribute to cross-functional projects as directed.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors)
- Strong knowledge of market research principles, competitive intelligence methods, and forecasting techniques.
- Broad understanding of EV, BESS, battery materials, and related market dynamics.
- Ability to synthesize large volumes of quantitative and qualitative data into clear, actionable insights.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, presentation tools, databases, and AI-enabled research tools.
- Ability to manage external data providers effectively and assess evolving data needs to improve the efficiency, quality, and innovation of market analysis.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively across commercial, marketing, product, and strategy teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare formal presentations for senior stakeholders.
Education/Experience
- Bachelors degree in Marketing, Economics, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in market research, market intelligence, business analysis, or a related analyst role.
- Experience in batteries, EV, BESS, or broader energy transition markets is strongly preferred.
- Professional proficiency in English is required next to native language of China. Additional languages relevant to the APAC region (Japanese, or Korean) are an advantage.
