WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (On call on a rotational basis) Position is not available for a Hybrid Telework workweek 

 

Performs master craftsman and lead work associated with installation, inspection, and maintenance of wastewater systems, equipment, materials and fixtures. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of wastewater systems, lift stations, and associated equipment; 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Google Apps; 

  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;  

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills;  

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;

  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;  

  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems; 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication  techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors,  vendors, and external agencies. 

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent;  

  • Five years of experience directly related to wastewater and/or plumbing systems installation and repair. 

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree or technical school training in plumbing systems;

  • Hold a valid Wastewater Collection System Operator License or obtain one within 12 months of hiring.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs experienced or master craftsman level work associated with wastewater lift station systems, materials,  equipment, and fixtures.  

  • Responds to assigned work orders relating to electrical systems; troubleshoots appropriate corrective  measures and performs work to provide a solution.  

  • Replaces faulty or defective plumbing equipment and systems.  

  • Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.  

  • Adheres to laws, regulations and requirements set forth in the Wake County Public School System’s (WCPSS)  safety procedures/policies.  

  • Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining  a safe work environment.  

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This job operates in indoor and outdoor environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors and staff members of external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
