    Job Description

Project – the aim you’ll have

You will join an internal OpenStack team that builds and operates private and sovereign cloud platforms for enterprise clients in Western Europe. Environments range from multi region platforms across several data centres to compact telco and edge clusters. Key selling points: hands on work on client production platforms, mentoring from senior engineers and architects, and a defined path to senior level.

    Position – how you’ll contribute

    • Install and configure OpenStack components with Kolla-Ansible in line with the approved design.
    • Prepare infrastructure nodes: operating system, KVM virtualisation, container runtime, network interfaces and storage access.
    • Configure networking and storage: OVN tenant networks, VLAN provider networks, Cinder volume types and boot from volume scenarios.
    • Deploy monitoring and logging: Prometheus with exporters, Alertmanager, Grafana, Fluentd and OpenSearch.
    • Handle second line incidents and service requests within the agreed service levels.
    • Execute planned changes and maintenance: patching, node replacement, virtual machine evacuation and upgrade support.
    • Maintain the configuration repositories through merge requests and promote changes between environments.
    • Automate repeatable work with Ansible and CI pipelines, and take part in the on call rotation.

    Qualifications

Expectations – the experience you need

    • At least 3 years administering Linux in production, including operating or implementing OpenStack.
    • Day to day operation of the core services: Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Placement and Horizon, including projects, quotas, flavors and images.
    • Ability to diagnose failed instance, volume and network operations using the OpenStack CLI and service logs.
    • Understanding of how the platform works internally: API, scheduler and agent components, the message queue and the state database.
    • Experience with an OpenStack deployment framework, preferably Kolla-Ansible, and with services running as containers.
    • KVM and libvirt at the level needed to troubleshoot a compute node, plus practical Ansible and Git skills.
    • Networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, NAT, filtering, overlay networks, and the difference between tenant and provider networks.
    • English at B2 level for technical documentation and daily contact with the client.

Additional skills – the edge you have

    • Kolla-Ansible, OpenStack-Ansible or TripleO.
    • OVN or Open vSwitch, and enterprise storage over NFS or iSCSI.
    • Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere or another virtualisation platform, and experience with VMware migrations.
    • Python for operational tooling and API integrations, or Terraform and Kubernetes.
    • Exposure to telco workloads or performance tuning such as SR-IOV, DPDK, CPU pinning and huge pages.
    • Certified OpenStack Administrator, or certifications in Linux, networking or cloud.
