Job Description : Project Manager - HVAC (Global Navy systems)
Position Summary
The Project Manager - HVAC is responsible for leading and executing HVAC projects across all Naval platforms and namely New Generation Missile Vessels to be constructed at Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Kochi. The role involves managing the complete project lifecycle from detailed design, Initiating Procurement, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in compliance with naval, marine classification society, and customer requirements.
The incumbent will coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, customers, shipyards, suppliers, and global stakeholders to deliver innovative, reliable, and energy-efficient HVAC solutions for mission-critical marine environments.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead end-to-end HVAC project execution for Naval projects.
- Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and resource allocation plans.
- Monitor project performance against cost, schedule, quality, and scope objectives.
- Ensure timely delivery of engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Manage project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, shipyards, naval authorities, and internal stakeholders.
- Conduct project reviews, progress meetings, and technical discussions with clients.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships to support business growth and repeat opportunities.
Engineering Coordination
- Coordinate HVAC design activities including:
- Heat load calculations
- Cooling and ventilation systems
- Chilled water systems
- Air handling units
- Refrigeration systems
- NBC (Nuclear, Biological & Chemical) filtration systems
- BOM
- Ensure designs comply with Naval standards and customer specifications.
- Support technical reviews, design approvals, and change management processes.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Manage supplier selection and technical evaluations.
- Coordinate procurement of HVAC equipment and materials through Supply Chain team.
- Monitor vendor performance, delivery schedules, quality, and contractual obligations.
Installation & Commissioning
- Support shipboard installation activities and site management.
- Coordinate testing, balancing, sea trials, harbor acceptance tests, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure successful handover of systems to customers.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Naval standards
- Class approvals & Inspections
- Company quality and safety procedures
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout project execution.
- Ensure project documentation and records are maintained accurately.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls.
- Review project profitability and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support contract negotiations, change orders, and claims management.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelorβs degree in Mechanical engineering , Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience
- 10-15 years of experience in HVAC engineering and project management.
- Experience executing projects within Naval shipbuilding programs
- Experience working with shipyards, defense organizations, and classification societies.
- Knowledge of lifecycle management from design through commissioning.
