Job Title:                     Newcomer Digital Skills Lab Coordinator

Location:                     St. John’s, NL

Position Type:             1 part-time position until March 31, 2027

Reporting to the Associate Director, Community & School Engagement, the Newcomer Digital Skills Lab Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the Newcomer Digital Skills Lab. The Coordinator will provide newcomer youth with practical, hands-on instruction in foundational digital literacy skills to increase their confidence and ability to use technology for school, everyday life, and future employment. The role will provide supportive instruction that accommodates varying levels of digital experience, literacy, and language ability.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide practical digital skills training to youth, covering computers, email, internet use, Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, online forms, and digital safety.
  • Guide participants in using technology independently for school, further education, accessing community resources, and daily activities.
  • Organize and lead interactive, hands-on technology sessions using laptops and other digital tools.
  • Adjust teaching methods and activities based on participants’ individual skill levels, language abilities, and learning requirements.
  • Introduce youth to useful technology skills, social media, online resources, problem-solving, and responsible digital participation.
  • Encourage participants to build confidence, independence, and comfort when working with digital technology.
  • Support youth in completing technology-based tasks and resolving basic technical or digital challenges.
  • Gather participant feedback and contribute to program evaluation and improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required reports and program documentation.
  • Assist with other program-related tasks and responsibilities as needed.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in program delivery in group settings
  • Experience working in an educational, community, or recreational setting
  • Strong technology and communication skills and confidence using computers and common software programs
  • Ability to explain technology and digital tasks in a clear, patient, and supportive manner
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and supporting newcomer youth

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada
  • Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)
  • Valid class 5 NL driver’s license and daily access to a personal vehicle is required
  • Occasional travel throughout NL is required
  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
