Job Summary

Alaska Overview
The Alaska segment primarily explores for, produces, transports and markets crude oil, natural gas and NGLs. We are the largest crude oil producer in Alaska and have major ownership interests in the Prudhoe Bay, Kuparuk and Western North Slope asset areas. Additionally, we are one of Alaska’s largest owners of state, federal and fee exploration leases, with approximately one million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2025. Alaska operations contributed 12 percent of our consolidated liquids production and one percent of our consolidated natural gas production.

In 2025, net crude oil production for Alaska averaged 199 MBOED.

Position Overview

Program Summary

The Operator Apprenticeship Program is a structured, three-phase program targeting graduates of a two-year Process Technology Degree Program. This program is designed to provide hands-on experience and mentorship.  Progression through each phase is based on performance and business need.  

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants with prior Production Operator experience are not eligible, as this is intended to be a training and development opportunity for entry-level candidates.

Program Structure

  • Apprentice Phase 1 – Duration 6 months

Introduction and foundational training

Completion of Phase 1 does not guarantee advancement to Phase 2. This phase concludes the apprenticeship unless an offer to advance to Phase 2 is extended.

  • Apprentice Phase 2 – Duration 12 months

Active participation in field operations

Completion of Phase 2 does not guarantee advancement to Phase 3. This phase concludes the apprenticeship unless an offer to advance to Phase 3 is extended.

  • Apprentice Phase 3 – Duration 12 months

Independent contributions, final evaluation, and potential consideration for future employment 

This phase concludes the apprenticeship.

This Position is a temporary, fixed term position.  The successful candidate will begin work as a Phase 1 Temporary Apprentice Operator. The duration of this Position is Phase-based, with potential continuation to Phase 2 and, thereafter Phase 3, contingent on business need and successful completion of the prior phase.

The apprentice will be expected to actively engage in a variety of safety programs and processes, and to advance rapidly as a Safety Leader. 

The Temporary Apprentice Operator will receive general exposure to the main areas of field operations. As they progress through the program, they will be expected to be an active member of the operations teams that they work with, proactively participating in conversations and asking questions that develop their personal learning, while respecting the professionalism of the operating

team. The expectation of the Temporary Apprentice Operator is to complete the 2 ½ year apprenticeship before becoming an Operator.

Assignments will be located at the Alpine or Kuparuk oil fields on the North Slope of Alaska. The work schedule will be a two-week on two-week off rotation. 

Your responsibilities may include: 

  • Actively participate in health, safety, and environmental programs and processes.
  • Practice emergency preparedness and learn to recognize abnormal conditions and report all incidents and near-misses.
  • Participate in Peer-to-Peer and PREP Conversations.
  • Participate in Operations toolbox and safety meetings.
  • Assist Operators with rounds and taking readings as well as performing surveillance and troubleshooting equipment. 
  • Witness and participate in the control of work and energy isolation processes.
  • Transmit information so it is received and understood as intended.
  • Complete all required Apprentice Operator Training and Competency requirements. 
  • Use proper radio etiquette and maintain clear, concise communication at all times.
  • Proactively participate in conversations and ask questions to develop personal learning.
  • Advance as a Safety Leader and contribute to a culture of safety and teamwork.

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Current/valid driver’s license
  • Associate degree in Process Technology completed within the past three years, or currently enrolled and expected to complete the degree this year
  • Willing and able to work in a remote based environment working a 2 week on/2 week off schedule 
  • Willing and able to meet the physical demands and work environment requirements outlined in this job description, with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred:

  • Completion of an operator internship with ConocoPhillips
  • North Slope experience
  • Advanced level safety leadership 
  • Basic knowledge of Process Safety Management
  • Actively communicates and takes time to safely perform work to protect our people and the environment 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Work in temperature extremes and adverse weather conditions
  • Work both in and out of a company-provided vehicle
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Comply with all aspects of a respiratory protection policy
  • Safely perform physical labor (climbing ladders/stairs, operating valves/equipment, walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and carrying material) during 12-hour shifts
  • This is a Safety Sensitive position covered by DOT and corporate drug-testing programs
