Position Summary
A Brief OverviewNuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purpose; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physician to view.

- Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Closed Saturday and Sunday)
SHIFT: 8:30AM - 5:00PM
Responsibilities
What you will do
- Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order
- Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care
- Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures
- Adheres to Baptist Health mission statements and strategic imperatives
- Performs all nuclear medicine dynamic, static and functional procedures required by specific studies
- Performs SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order
- Performs PET imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directed by interpreting physician, as required
- Performs all computer acquisition, and processing and documentation as required by procedure
- Performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlined by written procedure or manufactures guidelines
- Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals including positron emitters as required
- Maintains records as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control
- Performs all safety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control
- Performs venipuncture and evaluates IV access for the purpose of radiopharmaceutical and medication administration as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also administer contrast as required by guidelines or physician order
- Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses and calculates exact patient dosages as required by law and maintains records of such
- Assists in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user
- Participates in the corporate ALARA Radiation Safety Program
- Ensures safety of all customers
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other
- federal, state, and local standards
- Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies, department guidelines, and education requirements
- Participates in Process Improvement activities
- May be required to work at any facility
- Provides safe patient transport
- Handles, disposes, and decontaminates radioactive materials, while maintaining records of such under the regulations of the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control. Maintains a working knowledge of all procedural changes and equipment updates
- Demonstrates professional judgment and decision-making skills as required; solicits supervisory input as appropriate
- Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the patient studies
- Responsible for patient and family education of the studies being performed
- Participates in ensuring compliance with applicable regulations including but not limited to OSHA, The Joint Commission, FDA, NRC, EPA, and the Florida Department of Health.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology
- Must have knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures, and radiation safety
- Must meet ONE of the following in totality:
- Maintains current certification as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) –OR
- Maintains current certification as an (ARRT) (N) American Registry of Radiology Technologists in Nuclear Medicine
- Must meet ALL of the following:
- Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification
