JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Operating Engineer operates automatically fired boilers to generate hot water that supplies heat or power for buildings. Operates absorber and related air handling units that supply chilled water for buildings.  Operates Absorbers, Micro Turbines and Building Automation Software.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The successful incumbent will perform the following duties, with or without reasonable accommodations:

 

  • Perform rounds of the campus to ensure proper operation of absorbers, boilers, air handlers and pumps.

  • Observes pressure, temperature, on panel to verify specified operation of absorbers.

  • Observes air handling units to detect malfunctions and makes repairs, such as tightening pipes, fittings, pump repairs, and filter changes.

  • Adjusts controls to set specified operating temperature of absorption systems and air handlers.

  • Cleans and repairs absorbers, micro turbines and propane blender, blow down to discharge sediment; regulates feed water and condensation pumps and lubricates pump equipment.

  • Uses building automation software to adjust temperatures in office spaces as requested, as well as log operating conditions of all engineering equipment on campus.

  • Carries cell phone and portable radio during shift and responds to emergency situations on campus.

  • Assists other department employees in project completion.

  •  Perform other role-related duties as assigned or requested.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years’ maintenance or facilities experience.

 

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent technical training.

  • Philadelphia engineer grade A license must be acquired within 6 months of hiring.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods, up to eight hours per day.

  •  Ability to endure incidental or occasional exposure to hazardous materials and laboratory chemicals, including but not limited to formaldehyde, with and without personal protective equipment such as a respirator.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to view computer screen for extended periods, up to eight hours per day

  • Manual dexterity and mobility in order to use personal computer and other office equipment.


Starting Hourly Pay: $22.00/hr

 

The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
