Mō te tūranga | About the role

As the Operations Advisor, you'll lead operational planning, performance reporting, business improvement, and governance processes that support effective decision-making and the successful delivery of DOC's priorities.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll work closely with operational leaders to coordinate planning and reporting, budget oversight, identify risks and opportunities, and support the effective delivery of district priorities. You'll provide operational support across a broad portfolio, from governance reporting and health and safety initiatives through to regional planning activities and business improvement.  By turning data into actionable insights and fostering strong working relationships, you'll help drive operational excellence and conservation outcomes.

The position will be focussed on:

• Leading the district's operating environment, including assurance, issue management, governance processes, business improvement initiatives, and contributing to health and safety activities that support safe and effective operations.

• Coordinating planning, reporting, and budget management for the district, including developing quarterly and annual business plans, having an oversight of performance and finance monitoring, and providing insights that support informed decision-making and the delivery of priorities.

• Providing operational and leadership support, including coordinating governance reporting, supporting regional initiatives, huis, and overseeing the effective delivery of business support services.

• Building strong relationships and influencing outcomes by working collaboratively with operational leaders and teams across DOC to identify opportunities, improve processes, and deliver conservation outcomes.

• You'll also provide leadership and day-to-day support to one direct report, fostering their development and enabling high-quality business support across the district

While we offer flexible working options, including working from home, this role requires a regular presence across our Auckland and Warkworth offices. You'll be expected to work from both locations on a weekly or fortnightly basis to build relationships, support stakeholders, and maintain strong connections across the team.

If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:

• experience coordinating planning, reporting, budgeting, and operational delivery in a complex environment

• strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data and information into meaningful insights and continuous improvement opportunities

• excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing reports, briefings, and governance documentation for a range of audiences

• proven ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, and work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels

• confidence using technology and systems, including advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting tools

• solutions-focused, organised, and accountable, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes with integrity

• an understanding of the Māori-Crown relationship in relation to DOC, a passion for conservation, and an interest in developing leadership capability through supporting and mentoring others
