Part-time Faculty: Pre-Law and Paralegal

Position Summary

The JFK School of Law at National University invites applications for part-time Pre-Law and Paralegal Studies faculty. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of, or potential for excellence in, teaching and a commitment to serving the University’s diverse student body. In addition to teaching responsibilities, this position will work closely with the Academic Program Director and other faculty within the programs to ensure academic quality, and student engagement and success. The successful candidate will teach doctrinal and practice-oriented courses, engage remotely with students both within and outside the classroom, conduct weekly online synchronous class sessions, offer substantive feedback on student work, and inspire students to achieve course and program learning outcomes.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Teach live, synchronous online class sessions.
  • Provide substantive, timely feedback to students on various assessment activities.
  • Maintain a positive, safe and inclusive student-centric learning environment.
  • Complete required tasks by the stated deadlines (e.g., final grades, assessment, grading rubrics, input for grade appeals, etc.).
  • Provide feedback to the Academic Program Director regarding necessary updates or improvements to course content.
  • Identify at-risk students and collaborate with student services to provide support as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate professional training and/or scholarly activities, where applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school (ABA preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of legal practice experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology in the delivery of education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience with favorable student evaluations, preferably in the areas of legal research and writing, criminal law, and legal technology, however, all legal subject areas will be considered.
  • Experience with online teaching and the systems that support it.
  • Curriculum development experience.
