Overview

We’re hiring a Pathology Clerk to join Anne Arundel Dermatology’s laboratory team in Glen Burnie, MD. This role supports accurate specimen accessioning, patient and insurance data entry, pathology report management, and communication with client offices while maintaining strict compliance with laboratory and patient privacy standards.

 

Schedule: M-F 8:30-5pm

 

Pay rate: $20-22/hr

Responsibilities

To be successful in this position, one must be friendly, polite, tactful, and professional in appearance and manner at all times. Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians and remain mindful of patient confidentiality.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Enter and maintain accurate patient demographic and insurance information in PathLogix.
  • Accession pathology specimens and ensure required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in specimen, patient, or insurance information according to established procedures.
  • Verify accepted insurance information and coordinate specimen transfers when coverage requirements are not met.
  • Identify and appropriately route DIF specimens and other specialized pathology materials.
  • Retrieve prior and archived pathology reports and sort/distribute reports to the appropriate client locations.
  • Communicate professionally with client offices by phone to verify information and troubleshoot specimen or documentation issues.
  • Maintain an organized work area and support accurate, efficient laboratory workflow.
  • Follow HIPAA, OSHA Standard Precautions, Chemical Hygiene, and applicable laboratory safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager or management.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of typing or data-entry experience, with the ability to type at least 40 WPM.
  • Experience transcribing medical-related documents preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in a pathology laboratory preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time 
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. 
  • Use of hands and fingers. 
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. 
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. 
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
