What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Job Description

Position Function: Under supervision, perform tasks related to the control of pests and vermin using restricted and non-restricted chemical and mechanical devices, and perform duties related to the maintenance of grounds, complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Perform inside and outside pest control.

Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, hear, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires visual ability to read small print, distinguish color, and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate motorized equipment, various hand and power tools and related spray equipment. Employee is exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, vibrations, dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and may be required to wear filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to address complaints and concerns, receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.


2. Maintain required certifications.

Requires the physical ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Task requires the visual ability to read small print and perceive depth. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.

 

3. Maintain records relating to pesticide applications.

Requires the physical ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Task requires the visual ability to read and record appropriate data and perceive depth. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.

 

4. Oversee chemical application performed by non-certified personnel..

Requires the ability to reach, stand, walk, lift, finger, grasp, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to read small print, distinguish color, and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate motorized equipment, various hand and power tools and related spray equipment. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, vibrations, dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and may be required to wear filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to address complaints and concerns, receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.

 

5. Perform duties and responsibilities of Physical Plan Worker as assigned.

Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various motorized equipment, hand and power tools, etc. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and may be required to wear filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

1. Must possess a valid commercial or public applicator pesticide license for one of the following categories: ornamentals, turf grass, or industrial / institutional / health related pests.

2. Must have a minimum of two years of experience in pest control applications.

3. Must obtain certification in the two categories not in possession at the time of hire within a reasonable time period after hire as determined by Ball State University.

4. Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures, and communications and perform mathematical calculations.

5. Must possess and maintain a For Hire endorsement or obtain one within a reasonable period of time and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.

6. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.

7. Must be 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications: Commercial or public applicator pesticide license in mosquitoes and/or termites. Over two (2) years experience as a Pest Control applicator.
