Phlebotomist/EKG Technician - Casual

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Phlebotomist/EKG Technician to join our team. In this role, you will assist patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, performing blood draws and EKGs. You'll be working in a fast-paced environment where building connections with patients is key, many of whom you’ll see regularly. Phlebotomist/EKG Techs are vital members of our healthcare team, and we are looking for individuals who excel in technical skills and contribute to a positive work environment. Healthcare experience is preferred, and priority consideration will be given to applicants with phlebotomy experience. We're looking for someone who is open to learning, receptive to feedback, and dedicated to providing excellent patient care.

Shift Details: 

  • Employment Status: Casual, scheduled on an as-needed basis

  • Schedule: Varying days of the week with the option to pick up shifts on weekends.

  • Weekday Availability (Monday - Friday):

    • Second Shift: 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM

  • Weekend Availability (Saturday & Sunday):

    • Shift 1: 4:30 AM - 12:30 PM

    • Shift 2: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Duties:
Responsible for duties related to performing adult and pediatric EKG testing, specimen collection, specimen processing, and distribution of patient specimens for testing while adhering to department identification policies. Perform, evaluate, and report patient specimens using point-of-care instrumentation. Demonstrate behavioral skills that contribute to a productive work environment and provide excellent customer service.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 18 years of age required.
• High school education or equivalent required.
• Effective written and oral communication skills required.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
• Computer experience required.
• Attention to detail required.
• Ability to multitask required.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire or transfer required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

• Successful experience in clinical laboratory medicine preferred.

• Direct patient care experience OR completion of a phlebotomy course OR phlebotomy experience preferred.

• Prior non-invasive cardiology experience preferred.
• Experience with arrhythmias / 12 lead interpretations preferred.

• College courses in physiology, anatomy, physics, and/or other related subjects preferred.  
• Nationally recognized certification or registry in electrocardiography (EKG) preferred.

• Successful completion of a nationally recognized phlebotomy certification program preferred.
