Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a Phlebotomist, you will competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety.
Every day you will identify patients, explain procedures, proficiently perform venipunctures, and accurately label/prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to safety protocols.
To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills for accurate diagnostics and patient satisfaction.
- Processes, collects, and transports specimens from patients of all ages in an accurate and safe manner; including:Successful venipuncture rates from approved phlebotomy sites using approved techniques.
- Accepts organizational and logistical direction from more experienced phlebotomists.
- Plates microbiology specimens on appropriate primary culture media according to established procedures; including:Complete and accurate specimen identification.
- Is proficient in the use of the laboratory computer system and individual instrument computers as necessary. These duties include, but are not limited to the following: Monitoring Collection Batches for rounds. The hard copy of the TIMED category must be reviewed and highlighted, and discrepancies resolved. Print a hard copy of previews/review/and sign.
- Do rounds 5 minutes after the hour. Monitoring OE interface printer. Includes resolving ADDS and CANCELLED tests.Sign-off on each order.
Job Requirements
Required
- Valid and current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate (CT PHLEBOT)
- Basic communication skills and the ability to be caring and personable with patients are mandatory.
- Must be able to work in a calm and conscientious manner under high volumn and STAT conditions.
- Rigid accuracy in the identification of patient names and numbers and the ability to perform phlebotomy successfully using established procedures on patients of all ages
Preferred
- High school and/or college chemisty, biology, or mathematics are highly desired
