Airgas is Hiring for a Plant Manager

  • This position will be located at our Ammonia and Filling Plant in Maple, ON

  • This is an on-site position

Job Summary: The Plant Manager holds full operational and strategic accountability for the Maple facility. This leadership role is responsible for driving excellence across manufacturing, safety, and financial performance while fostering a high-performance culture. The ideal candidate will blend hands-on operational oversight with sophisticated project management and financial acumen to ensure the facility meets the highest standards of Airgas efficiency and safety. 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Strategic Management

  • Facility Oversight: Direct the daily operations of the plant, including outbound delivery schedules and inbound product supply chain management.

  • Continuous Improvement: Champion plant efficiencies by creating a continuous flow of operational improvements and reviewing Airgas Dashboards and KPIs. 

  • Infrastructure & Fleet: Oversee plant and vehicle maintenance, collaborating with the Fleet Manager to ensure asset reliability. 

  • Project Management: Lead capital projects from inception to completion, including estimate retention, contractor scheduling, and safety oversight.

Financial Stewardship

  • P&L Management: Perform in-depth monthly P&L analysis to ensure fiscal health. 

  • Budgetary Planning: Partner with regional leadership on annual budgeting and capital project planning. 

  • Expense Control: Manage and review associate expenses to ensure strict adherence to company policy. 

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Safety Culture: Cultivate a world-class safety culture, leading regular facility safety meetings and ensuring 100% compliance with E2 Regulations and Lockout Tag/EC&IP protocols. 

  • Regulatory Expert: Maintain rigorous standards for TDG Hours of Service, Ministry of Environment regulations, and hazardous material (Hazmat) handling. 

  • Quality Assurance: Direct the creation, review, and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guarantee quality and consistency. 

People & Talent Development

  • Team Leadership: Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, coaching, training, and performance management.

  • Growth & Motivation: Foster employee development programs and motivate teams to achieve operational excellence. 

  • Workforce Planning: Manage time-keeping, leave of absences, and driver hour distribution to minimize overtime while maximizing output.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 6+ years of professional experience, including a supervisory or leadership role. 

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience. 

  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of industrial chemical distribution, logistics, and inventory management is preferred. 

  • Safety Acumen: Knowledge of Safety and Regulatory Compliance including TDG & Ministry of Environment, and experience with hazardous material regulations. 

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with the Google platform, including experience with Sheets. 

  • Communication: Good oral and writing skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with branch associates and all levels of management within Airgas. 

  • Mobility: Willingness to travel up to 50%.
