Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by predicting defects and assessing weld quality of mechanical parts in real-time by developing machine learning models that use sensor data and other tasks that are assigned to you.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Understanding various concepts in welding and related mechanical engineering processes and cleaning existing datasets.
  • Creating deep learning models.
  • Using deep learning to create a robust model that predicts welding defects based on sensor data.
  • Perform other project-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree required
  • 0-1 year of experience:
  • Machine learning for engineering design and simulation
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
