Who we are? We are a leader in First Nation Health. Our foundation is Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands. We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and one Indigenous Friendship Centre in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services and health promotion services. We have recently been approved as the first Indigenous lead Ontario Health Team in the province by the Ministry of Health.

The opportunity: Under the direction of the Manager of the Baawaating Family Health Team site, the Primary Care Physician is responsible to provide physician services for Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services Inc. under the department of Comprehensive Primary Health Care. The scope of this service is within an inter-disciplinary team to provide primary care to clients and their families within a client-centered care model emphasizing health promotion and client education.

What you need to bring with you:

  • Medical degree and rotating internship from a recognized university.
  • License to practice from the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons.
  • Experience in a primary health care setting, First Nation community based is an asset.
  • Knowledge and interest in health issues affecting Indigenous people.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care and resources.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle.
  • A clear criminal reference check.

What to expect?

Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time-to-time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar may occur.
