About this role

Summary of Position:

As a Custom Pak Designer Technical Lead and Developer, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the timely delivery of assigned JIRA stories, including new features, enhancements, and bug fixes, while adhering to established development standards and best practices. You will provide technical guidance and support to L1 and L2 support personnel and be accountable for L3 and L4 support activities. The role requires a strong focus on documentation, knowledge transfer sessions, and continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability, performance, and operational efficiency. You will collaborate across projects within the portfolio as needed and ensure zero defects post go-live and zero escalations from Custom Pak Designer users. Additionally, you will lead DevSecOps initiatives, driving CI/CD automation, secure software development practices, infrastructure-as-code implementation, vulnerability management, cloud security compliance, and operational excellence to ensure the secure, reliable, and efficient delivery of business solutions across the application lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Development:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and support scalable and high-performance applications using Angular and AWS cloud platform/services, software defined infrastructure/configuration, design patterns for microservices, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Lambda, Jira, GitHub, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, JAVA, Node.js, Angular, DynamoDB, Git, HTML/CSS
  • Implement and adhere to security standards and best practices for application development.
  • Develop and implement unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests for the applications.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, best practices, and adherence to coding standards.
  • Embrace Agile principles and practices.  Utilize Alcon’s tools for Agile development, and ensure external partners abide by Alcon’s agile processes.
  • Lead the implementation of DevSecOps practices by integrating security controls, automated testing, code quality checks, and compliance validation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and AWS-native services while ensuring security, scalability, and compliance.
  • Integrate security scanning tools (SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, container scanning, secrets detection) into build and deployment pipelines.
  • Drive automation of build, release, deployment, monitoring, and incident response processes to improve reliability and deployment velocity.
  • Collaborate with security teams to remediate vulnerabilities, manage security risks, and ensure compliance with enterprise security policies and standards.

Architecture and Design:

  • Ensure that developed solutions are peer reviewed, formally documented, and aligned with team, project, and enterprise standards.
  • Collaborate with architect/s to ensure the design aligns with the overall system architecture.
  • Create/maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams and code documentation.
  • Optimize cloud-based solutions for scalability, reliability, resilience, security, and performance.

Technical Leadership:

  • Act as the DevSecOps Lead, establishing and enforcing secure development and deployment standards across the application landscape.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to CI/CD maturity, automation, cloud governance, security posture, and operational excellence.
  • Lead vulnerability management activities, security assessments, risk remediation planning, and compliance audits.
  • Mentor development and support teams on DevSecOps principles, secure coding practices, cloud security, and automation strategies.
  • Define and track key DevSecOps metrics including deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, mean time to recovery (MTTR), security vulnerabilities, and code quality indicators.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless system integrations.
  • Collaborate within the project team for quality deliverables
  • Coordinate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to deploy and maintain applications on AWS.
  • Partner with Enterprise Security, Cloud Platform, Architecture, and Infrastructure teams to ensure secure and compliant solution delivery.
  • Coordinate security reviews, threat modeling sessions, and architecture assessments throughout the software development lifecycle.

Troubleshooting and Debugging:

  • Identify and resolve performance issues, bottlenecks, and bugs.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Analyze security incidents, operational issues, and production failures, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
  • Lead post-incident reviews and drive automation to eliminate recurring operational and security issues.

Data Management:

  • Design the database schema for efficient data retrieval, manipulation, and storage.
  • Write database queries, stored procedures, and other database-specific code.
  • Ensure data integrity during migrations and integrations.

Testing:

  • Review test coverage based on sprint and release plans.
  • Perform unit, integration, and regression testing, and document the results.
  • Coordinate with the automation team for test execution and result review.

L3 & L4 Support:

  • Provide guidance and support to L1&L2 support personals as required.
  • Provide L3 & L4 support in a timely manner.
  • Lead production support governance, incident management, problem management, and release management activities.
  • Ensure adherence to SLAs, operational readiness standards, and security compliance requirements.

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of applicable experience

  • AWS Certifications (Developer, Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer) preferred.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of applicable experience
    • Minimum 10+ years of experience in Information Systems Analysis, Design, Development, Operations, and Support.
    • Minimum 7+ years of experience in Full-Stack and Web Application Development.
    • Minimum 3+ years of experience leading DevSecOps initiatives, CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, cloud security, and platform engineering.
    • Minimum 2+ years of experience working in Agile and DevOps environments.
    • Technologies:  AWS cloud platform/services, software defined infrastructure/configuration, design patterns for microservices, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Lambda, Angular, Node.js, Jira, GitHub, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, JAVA. DynamoDB, Git, HTML/CSS
    • Experience with medical device, life sciences and regulated environments (GxP, SOX) preferred.
  • Experience designing, developing, deploying, operating and supporting complex Web applications using AWS services.
  • Experience in performance analysis for scalability, low-latency, and efficient resource utilization.
  • Proven ability to create detailed technical designs from user stories, requirements, and functional designs.
  • Strong experience in source code management and branching/merge/commit strategies.
  • Proficient in conducting unit and integration tests.
  • Experience or Exposure to TOSCA Test suite
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, triggers, stored procedures, and database roles.
  • Track record developing global applications with multi-lingual support and localization/globalization.
  • Versatility to flex into business analyst, DevOps, and/or other adjacent roles.
