The Float Pool allows you to work with diverse populations across numerous units, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers. As Patient Companion, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. You will also find a culture that encourages professional growth, educational development and career success. 

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. Working 48 hours per 6-week schedule and 2 holidays per year will be required. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming and taking vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. 
  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.  
  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.  
  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.  
  • Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required. 
  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.  
  • Collaborate with members of the health care team to promote the delivery of patient care and the overall functioning of the unit.
  • Collaborate with personnel in nursing and supportive services in assuring a safe and clean patient environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding patients and co-workers.
  • Complete all documentation on the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) flow sheet as directed by the assigned RN.
  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients as assigned, or if assigned to a closed unit provides constant observation only for safety for three to four patients

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Heartsaver Level of Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within three months of hire 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
