Responsibilities

  • Collects samples and performs tests of raw materials, in-process materials and finished products to determine the physical state, chemical content or proper blend of product ingredients and other materials utilized in cement manufacture.
  • Performs tests as established and scheduled by supervision, several times during shift as required.  The lab operates 24/7; the schedule for this opening is currently 12 hours, working a night shift
  • As tests results indicate, and in accordance with established procedures, notifies operators or supervisors, or takes prescribed action to assure finished product conformance with specifications and to maintain quality of products.
  • Prepares and maintains records of test and operation data, as required. Prepares various materials and samples for use, analysis or testing by Physical Testers, or others as instructed.
  • Performs testing of cement product for fineness and sulfur content.
  • Test for FCaO in clinker.
  • Runs chemical analysis of slurry, cement and clinker.
  • Understands and uses ASTM Book for Standards for Cement, Lime and Gypsum, FLS automation Troubleshooting Guide, Phillips x-ray Start-up and Shutdown Procedures and Plant Standards for Quality.
  • Substitutes for other laboratory personnel during their absence and performs physical testing and chemical analysis tasks when requried by production schedules, vacation and absences.  Takes inventory of various materials and indredients, as required.
  • Cleans equipment after each test and the laboratory at end of shift; restores tool, instruments, apparatus and test materials, to proper places.
  • Continues self-improvement activities especially in the areas of cement testing.
  • Will be trained in first aid and CPR.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution is required
  •       2-3 years of laboratory experience
  •       Good communication and language skills
  •       Good organization and decision making abilities
