The COLUMBIA Program is Electric Boat's largest and most important construction program and you can be part of the team that leads it! Construction efforts on the COLUMBIA Program are ramping up, and we need exceptional people to lead the program.

The ideal candidate is well organized, an excellent communicator, thinks strategically while also being able to tactically address issues professionally. The selected candidate is a self-starter, bringing new and innovative ideas to the  Groton COLUMBIA Construction Program. This position is a tremendous opportunity to learn about all functional areas of the company, while also contributing to a key enterprise need.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the functional areas of EB with the goal of achieving all serial production program objectives with readiness, execution, and delivery
  • Making and approving critical decisions involving cost, schedule, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Continuously measuring each functional area's performance against objectives and initiating prompt corrective action(s), and representing EB to the Navy (Ship's Force/SSGR/PMS397) for all program issues
  • Provide programmatic direction based on technical evaluations
  • Coordinate efforts with cognizant EB technical experts (including engineering, facilities, test, inspection,planning, and operations), when required, to resolve emergent design, material, and/or construction issues in a time critical environment
  • Preparing reports and presentations for Program Reviews
  • Acting as the point of contact for and reporting various statuses to NAVSEA and EB senior management
  • Provide management level out briefs to all levels of EB management and customers (SOSG and PMS 397,RPCO and NNL, NRRO and NR), including metrics creation

The selected candidate will work out in front of the production efforts to address lessons learned, reporting capabilities,and project management fundamentals to prevent challenges from becoming issues to the construction team. Cost,schedule, and attainment metrics such as IMCS Data, 3G and 7G reports are the essential tools that will be used to track performance.This is a high visibility position to shipyard and senior leadership. The successful candidate, with experience, will be expected to engage with all levels of management to report progress, seek assistance, and manage activities. Engagement will be throughout the waterfront organizations including Planning, Operations, Engineering, Purchasing,Test, Contracts, Finance, Ship's Force, and SSGR. Overtime and travel to NNS and EB facilities at Quonset Point as needed is expected.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering 
  • 2+ years of professional experience supporting construction and/or test activities
  • Demonstrated understanding of or experience in construction management, project execution, or related field
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals
  • Has ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance

Preferred:

  • Proven record of planning and leading cross-functional projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Understanding of ship construction, operation, and/or planning

  • Familiarity with ship construction and Electric Boat’s business processes are highly desired
