The Opportunity

BlueScope Distribution is looking for a Programmer to join the programming and estimation team based in Eagle Farm, QLD. BlueScope Distribution is a single-source provider of product, processing and service solutions in steel and aluminium product. The business supports customers in a variety of industries and works with them to help deliver projects on time and to specification. BlueScope Distribution supports its customers by helping them find the freedom to do what they do best.

As a Programmer, you'll play a key role in converting customer requirements and technical drawings into accurate machine programs and quotations, helping to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to specification. Working closely with production and sales teams, you'll contribute to a safety-focused environment where quality, innovation, and customer service are at the forefront.

What Will You Do?

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • generate estimates and quotes for processed goods from shop drawings, BOM and take-offs
  • provide advice to both customers and internal stakeholders on processing capability and costs
  • manage router processing requirements and ensuring usage of all offcuts and batch plate and minimising waste and in turn maximising profitability
  • prepare and follow up customer quotes in a timely manner
  • proactively assist customers with advice on changes to sales orders, including changes to promised delivery dates
  • provide timely and accurate order status information to customers

More About You

Key to your success is your outstanding customer service skills, high attention to detail, and your effective negotiation and influencing abilities.  Experience in a similar programming role will be highly regarded, however, we are also open to applicants who have a strong customer service background with knowledge of Aluminium or Steel who are keen to learn.  

You will also have the following:

  • demonstrated experience in machine programming within a manufacturing, steel processing, or fabrication environment
  • proficiency in AutoCAD, including the creation and interpretation of technical drawings and part specifications
  • experience using SigmaNEST or similar nesting software for material optimisation and production efficiency
  • hands-on experience programming CNC machinery, including Plasma, Router, Beamline, Oxy-Fuel, and Tube Laser equipment
  • ability to read, interpret, and work from technical and engineering drawings
  • working knowledge of SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • experience using FastCAM QE or similar quotation and estimating software
  • strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines
