The Protection & Control Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, integration and commissioning of control and instrumentation systems, substation SCADA, and Power Plant Controllers (PPC) for photovoltaic plants, wind farms, BESS systems and hybrid configurations. This role combines instrumentation and control capabilities, SCADA programming, substation electrical protection, and advanced control modelling.

Your Responsibilities:  

  • Design of Control Systems: Responsible for the design, supervision and implementation of engineering activities related to the control of renewable generation plants: photovoltaic, wind, BESS, or any hybrid combination of these technologies.
  • Integration of the PPC with Plant and Substation SCADA Systems: Defines the control architecture of the plants and ensures integration with monitoring and control systems, both at plant level and at evacuation substations. Also supports integration with the TSO systems and plant/substation control centres.
  • Standardisation and Definition of PPC Suppliers: Responsible for defining the approved list of PPC suppliers, ensuring they comply with current legislation and meet internal company standards.
  • PPC Design and Configuration: Defines redundancy requirements when necessary and selects the most suitable internal equipment to ensure compliance, durability and maintainability according to internal company standards.
  • Integration with Electrical Systems and Protection Schemes: Participates in the definition, tuning, validation and coordination of plant and substation protection systems to ensure correct system operation.
  • Modelling and Simulation: Desirable experience in EMT and RMS simulation using specialised software such as DIgSILENT, PSCAD, ETAP and MATLAB/Simulink, ensuring compliance with grid codes, international standards and applicable national regulations.
  • FAT/SAT Testing and Commissioning: Defines and supports factory and site testing to ensure the PPC meets company specifications and standards. Ensures the final configuration matches the expected and approved design.
  • Alarm Management and Event Analysis: After plant commissioning, provides support to the O&M department in the event of any anomalous PPC behaviour.
  • Technical Documentation: Preparation of specifications and/or review of diagrams, signal lists, drawings and operational manuals related to the PPC and its integration into the plant and substation.

You should have:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation, Industrial or Telecommunications Engineering,
  • At least 3 years of experience in industrial control, SCADA, PPC or electrical protection.
  • Experience in commissioning renewable plants and/or substations.
  • Strong technical expertise in PLC programming, AutoCAD, ETAP, Digsilent, PSSE or similar.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required; additional languages are a plus. 
  • Willingness to travel on a regular basis across our project sites in Spain, with occasional stays of up to two weeks.
