About the role

This is a key academic leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering our Public Health provision.

As Subject Lead, you will take ownership of the curriculum, teaching quality and student outcomes within Public Health. You will work closely with senior academic leadership to ensure the subject is delivered to a high standard, aligned to university partner requirements and industry expectations.

You will also play a key role in supporting and developing lecturers, maintaining academic standards, and ensuring the subject is positioned for growth.

What youโ€™ll be doing

  • Lead the design, development and continuous improvement of the Public Health curriculum
  • Ensure all modules are delivered in line with university partner requirements and regulatory standards
  • Maintain oversight of teaching quality, student outcomes, retention and progression
  • Line manage and support Public Health lecturers, providing guidance, feedback and development
  • Contribute to recruitment, onboarding and development of academic staff within the subject area
  • Oversee assessment design, marking standards, moderation and feedback quality
  • Lead on quality assurance activity including course reviews, audits and standardisation
  • Act as the key academic contact for Public Health with internal stakeholders and university partners
  • Ensure curriculum content reflects current public health priorities, policy and industry practice
  • Support students academically where needed, particularly on more complex or escalated issues
  • Contribute to broader academic planning, including new programme development and subject expansion
  • Support open days, student recruitment activity and external engagement where required

About you

You are an experienced academic or industry professional with strong subject knowledge in Public Health and a clear understanding of Higher Education delivery.

You are comfortable taking ownership, setting standards and holding others accountable, while also supporting and developing those around you.

Essential

  • Degree in Public Health or a closely related discipline
  • Masters degree in Public Health or related field
  • Experience teaching in Higher Education or a similar academic setting
  • Strong understanding of public health principles, policy and practice (e.g. health inequalities, epidemiology, health promotion)
  • Experience designing or delivering modules and assessments
  • Ability to maintain academic standards and ensure quality across delivery

Desirable

  • PhD in Public Health or related field
  • Experience in an academic leadership role (e.g. module lead, course lead, subject lead)
  • Industry or professional experience within public health, healthcare or related sectors
  • Experience working with awarding bodies or university partners
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g. QAA, OfS expectations)
