Job Description

The Quality Control Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, safety, and quality of ClearWater’s industrial construction, maintenance, fabrication, and turnaround projects. Working closely with operations, clients, inspectors, tradespeople, subcontractors, and quality teams, this position is responsible for leading quality activities throughout project execution while ensuring compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.

The Quality Control Lead serves as a trusted technical resource and frontline leader, providing oversight of inspection activities, quality documentation, testing programs, and Quality Management System (QMS) implementation. This role is responsible for coordinating and supervising quality personnel, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring quality requirements are consistently achieved in both shop and field environments.

What would you be doing?

Quality Leadership & Oversight

Lead quality assurance and quality control activities by:

  • Providing day-to-day supervision, guidance, and technical support to Quality Inspectors and quality personnel.
  • Ensuring quality inspections and activities are executed in accordance with the QMS, client specifications, applicable legislation, and industry codes and standards.
  • Conducting site reviews, audits, and field inspections to verify compliance and quality performance.
  • Acting as the primary quality representative with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Supporting quality investigations, corrective actions, and lessons learned initiatives.

Inspection, Testing & Coordination

Manage and coordinate project quality activities, including:

  • Inspection of welded and flanged connections.
  • Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) activities.
  • Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT).
  • Pressure testing programs.
  • Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) execution and compliance.
  • Planning and coordinating quality activities throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Verifying testing equipment is calibrated and maintained in proper working conditions.
  • Collaborating with project teams and subcontractors to ensure quality requirements are completed safely and efficiently.

Documentation & Compliance Management

Maintain and oversee quality records and compliance requirements by:

  • Preparing, reviewing, and approving quality documentation in accordance with established procedures.
  • Tracking inspection reports, test records, turnover packages, and project quality data.
  • Ensuring compliance with client specifications and applicable ASME and CSA code requirements.
  • Developing and implementing Quality Management Plans when required.
  • Supporting internal, external, and client audits.
  • Managing non-conformance reporting and ensuring timely corrective actions are completed and documented.

Continuous Improvement & Client Support

Support a culture of quality excellence by:

  • Promoting ClearWater’s commitment to Safety and Quality Always.
  • Working collaboratively with operations, project teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ensuring supplier and subcontractor quality requirements are clearly communicated and maintained.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve quality processes, systems, and project outcomes.
  • Contributing to ongoing quality performance improvement initiatives across the organization.

Qualifications

 

  • CSA W178.2 Level II certification or higher with applicable endorsements and a valid eye examination; or API 510/570 certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality control experience within industrial construction, maintenance, fabrication, or oil and gas turnaround environments.
  • Strong understanding of ASME and CSA code requirements.
  • Experience with welding, torqueing, NDE, PWHT, and pressure testing activities.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and change management capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple activities and meet project deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
  • Technical Education (WET or MET) diploma or Journeyperson certification is considered an asset.
  • Ability to perform physical job demands, including climbing, bending, lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules and travel to project sites as required.
