About this role

About the Role

Blue Robotics is looking for a Quality Inspector to join our production team building underwater vehicles, thrusters, lights, sensors, and other robotic components. As the Quality Inspector, each component that you examine will go out into the world to explore shipwrecks, study endangered species, map the ocean floor, and generally advance human understanding of the oceans. Pretty cool!

On the flipside, even a small product failure can lead to a failed mission for our customer. Because of that, our in-house quality team is driven to deliver excellence in every product. Our Quality Inspectors are the type of people who notice the tiny details that others might miss and speak up about potential issues or inconsistencies. Our Quality Inspectors work efficiently and independently for the majority of the day, and collaborate with the rest of the team to share their findings after inspections or investigations. We are pursuing the highest standards of reliability and excellence, and collecting all the data while we do it.

Having manufacturing experience is a huge plus for this role, but don’t worry, most of our wonderful team have never built robots or robotic components before. Without a background in manufacturing, you still may be a great fit if you have worked in a machine shop, a healthcare setting, or worked as a field technician installing equipment for clients. Our ideal candidate has a sense of urgency, is very detail-oriented, accustomed to updating notes or entering notes in a computer program, and is very independent.

What You'll Do

  • Performing a range of varied inspection tasks including in-process and end-of-line quality inspections on all Blue Robotics products.
  • Using measuring tools (calipers, micrometer, voltmeter, and etc.) and test equipment as necessary.
  • Working independently to review and inspect products, materials and assemblies. (Approx. 70% of the time.)
  • Working within your team to create quality reports, complete timely inspections, and  implement process and quality improvements. (Approx. 30% of the time.)
  • Reading and following written and verbal work instructions.
  • Reporting issues clearly and proactively to supervisors and team members.
  • Occasionally performing investigations on products returned by customers to identify root causes of failures.
  • Digital file organization, updating dashboards and entering QA data.
  • Supporting the Engineering team as needed.
  • Helping with other projects as necessary.

  • Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills

  • 1+ year experience using measuring instruments

  • Proactive communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience in a QA role in manufacturing setting
  • Experience with wiring cables and soldering PCB

  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
