About this role

Overview

The Department 460 Quonset Point Project Engineering team is seeking highly motivated candidates to support VIRGINIA Class construction, specifically focused on the VIRGINIA Payload Module (VPM).

D460QP is responsible for the resolution of design issues, trouble-shooting of construction problems, technical support for manufacturing operations, verification and certification of as-built dimensions and configurations, and implementation of process improvements.  The department’s main goal is to provide timely, high quality engineering support for all manufacturing, steel fabrication, and outfitting activities at the Quonset Point facility. In addition, engineers in D460QP are exposed to various aspects of submarine design and construction which provides opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer.

The goal of the Project Engineering team is to provide forward-deployed, rapid support of Operations and Planning, assisting in resolution of urgent construction issues beyond the typical D460QP Deckplate Engineering role such as leading the development of Risk Assessment and Mitigation Plans (RAMPs) for VPM evolutions and ensuring that lessons learned from previous hulls are incorporated into future planning and build strategies. The role supports cross‑functional coordination, continuous improvement of RAMP processes, alignment with evolving program requirements, and collaboration with the Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW) project engineers.

Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for providing on-site support for VIRGINIA Class products: establishing a proactive daily presence in production areas, building relationships with Operations customers, attending Operations agenda meetings, assisting with resolution of work package issues, assessing build status relative to schedule, supporting construction readiness, RAMP and hotwash efforts, and coordinating Engineering support for schedule-critical evolutions.
