Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dependable Recreational Technician to join our behavioral health team in Midland, Texas.
This role is similar to a Mental Health Technician but focuses primarily on therapeutic recreation, structured activities, patient engagement, and creating a positive treatment environment. Overview
What Youโll Do
As a Recreational Technician, you will work closely with the Recreational Therapy and clinical teams to:
- Assist with and lead structured recreational and therapeutic activities for patients.
- Encourage patients to participate in group activities, games, exercise, arts and crafts, leisure activities, and other therapeutic programming.
- Help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for patients.
- Provide appropriate supervision and observation of patients during recreational activities.
- Assist with setting up, organizing, and cleaning activity areas and supplies.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and communicate professionally with patients.
- Observe patient behaviors and communicate concerns or significant changes to the appropriate clinical staff.
- Assist with maintaining patient safety and following established behavioral health safety procedures.
- Support de-escalation and redirection of patients when appropriate and within training.
- Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, social workers, Mental Health Technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Document patient participation or other required information according to facility procedures.
- Follow all hospital policies related to patient rights, confidentiality, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and recreational programming.
Requirements/Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience working in behavioral health, healthcare, recreation, education, childcare, activities, or a related environment is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate patients with different needs and abilities.
- Creative, energetic, patient, and dependable.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and patient confidentiality.
