Key Responsibilities

The Referral & Relationship Specialist role should be structured around five main pillars:

1. Organizing the Current Referral Network

This role will be responsible for organizing and maintaining a clear firmwide referral network, including:

  • Firms, attorneys, and professionals who refer cases to DLG and/or MAA.
  • Firms, attorneys, and professionals DLG and/or MAA refers cases to.
  • Referral partners organized by practice area, case type, quality, responsiveness, and relationship strength.
  • Known gaps in referral coverage, including practice areas where additional trusted partners are needed.
  • Referral agreement language or partnership details that may need review by leadership.

The goal is to create a central, reliable resource so the firm knows where referrals are coming from, where referrals are going, and which referral partners should be prioritized.

2. Strengthening Inbound Referral Relationships

This role should help DLG and MAA become more visible and trusted referral destinations. The Specialist should support intentional outreach to law firms, community partners, medical/legal professionals, and other referral sources so they understand:

  • Who DLG and MAA are.
  • What types of cases the firm handles.
  • When to refer cases to the firm.
  • Why the firm is a trusted partner.
  • What makes the firm accessible, responsive, and client-centered.

This includes revisiting and improving referral outreach emails, reminders, partner-facing content, and follow-up communication.

3. Tracking, Follow-Up, and Revenue Generation

This role is not intended to be purely administrative. It should be strategic and revenue-focused.

The Specialist should help establish and maintain a referral tracking process that allows the firm to understand:

  • Incoming referral volume.
  • Outgoing referral volume.
  • Referral source.
  • Case type.
  • Case status.
  • Whether a referred case was accepted.
  • Whether follow-up is needed.
  • Whether a referral fee or revenue opportunity exists.
  • Revenue tied to referral activity where available.

During the first quarter in the role, the focus should be on building the tracking process and establishing the reporting structure. The following quarter should update the revenue KPI to measure referral revenue growth, once baseline data exists.

4. Cross-Department Collaboration

The Referral & Relationship Specialist should work closely with:

  • Marketing
  • Intake
  • Attorneys
  • Case management
  • Operations
  • Leadership
  • MAA/personal injury team
  • Social Security and VA teams

This includes attending events, supporting referral-related content, helping intake identify referral opportunities, coordinating with attorneys on outgoing referral partners, and making sure referral-related information is communicated clearly across departments.

5. Promoting Firm Strengths and Differentiators

The Specialist should help communicate the firm’s strengths to referral partners, including:

  • DLG and MAA’s client-centered approach.
  • Experience in Social Security Disability, VA Disability, and personal injury.
  • Accessibility and language support within the team, including Spanish, Arabic, Chaldean, and other languages where applicable.
  • The firm’s reputation, community involvement, and commitment to improving lives.
  • Why referral partners can trust DLG and MAA with their clients, contacts, and cases.

The goal is to make sure referral partners understand not only what the firm does, but why DLG and MAA should be top of mind when referral opportunities arise.

6. Community Outreach & Relationship Development

The Referral & Relationship Specialist will serve as an active representative of DLG in the community and help develop meaningful, long-term relationships with professionals, organizations, and businesses that may serve individuals who could benefit from DLG’s services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build and strengthen relationships with local providers, businesses, professional organizations, community groups, and other potential referral partners.
  • Conduct in-person visits and outreach to current and prospective referral partners when appropriate.
  • Attend and support networking events, community programs, resource fairs, and other outreach opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent communication with referral partners through meetings, phone calls, email, and follow-up outreach.
  • Educate community partners on DLG’s Social Security Disability and Veterans Disability services and how to refer individuals who may need assistance.
  • Identify new organizations, professionals, and community relationships that align with DLG’s mission and client population.
  • Coordinate outreach activity with Marketing and Leadership to ensure relationship-building efforts support broader firm initiatives.
  • Track outreach activity, relationship touchpoints, referrals generated, and follow-up needs.
  • Look for opportunities to develop reciprocal and long-term referral relationships.
