Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will competently provide essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Your expertise is vital for critical respiratory interventions and patient well-being.Every day you will perform arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration.To be successful, you will possess advanced clinical skills in all aspects of respiratory care across age groups, meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety and infection control, and the ability to perform effectively in emergencies.

  • Works in at least two (2) of the following areas: Adult ICUs, Labor & Delivery/Nursery, non-critical acute adult areas, ED/Relief Shift Leader, Skilled nursing facility. Must remain at least 98% of the time.
  • Demonstrates the ability to draw and run an arterial blood gas sample with 100% accuracy.
  • Reports and documents critical results reporting within 5 minutes of analysis to RN or Physician. The results will be phoned or given in person. Expected outcome: No more than four (4) omissions annually.
  • Patient Assessment: Complete assessment performed on all new patients according to department policy. To include: Physical assessment, History, Acuity check, and patient Care Plan.
  • Accurate assessment and response to therapy given will be reevaluated in all patients daily.
  • Performs poor documentation or inappropriate clinical decisions more than 5 times per year.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Clinical experience.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner: CA.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Hear Association.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pathophysiology of the cardiorespiratory system. biomedical electronics, basic mathematics, chemistry, physics, and psychology, pharmacology relating to respiratory therapy. 
  • Ability to deal with agitated, ill, and uncomfortable patients -maintain confidence of patients.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients and families calm and reassure patients and families working under stressful conditions with frequent interruption.
  • Ability to keep accurate and complete records - coordinate several assignments and establish work priorities -work in harmony with other therapists.
  • Completion of an AMA approved respiratory therapy program. Eligible for CRTE credit through active membership in the AART or able to exhibit the knowledge, skills, and abilities.
