Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our NICU Registered Nurse, you will help premature and critically ill newborns and their families receive comprehensive, round-the-clock care so they can achieve optimal health outcomes and navigate the challenges of early life.

 

Everyday you will coordinate total patient care for assigned newborns, including continuous monitoring and specialized interventions. You will be expected to assess and interpret age-specific patient data, manage specialized neonatal equipment, and provide crucial family support and education.

 

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life-span, effectively coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team, and uphold the Mission and Core Values of St. Bernardine Medical Center.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Comprehensive Neonatal Assessment & Care Planning: Complete thorough nursing assessments for newborns, utilizing all available information (including parents and records), to develop initial and ongoing individualized care plans specific to the neonate's unique health and developmental needs.
  • Age-Specific Care & Family Integration: Provide direct patient care tailored to neonatal physiology and pathology, accommodating the specific needs of premature or critically ill infants, while involving and supporting parents/families to function at their optimal level.
  • Specialized Protocols & Equipment Knowledge: Demonstrate expert knowledge and safe application of neonatal-specific protocols, procedures, and critical pathways for direct patient care, including the use of specialized equipment relevant to the NICU environment.
  • Dynamic Care Plan Modification: Consistently communicate and document each neonate's individual and age-specific needs within the nursing care plan, continuously reviewing and modifying it based on ongoing patient assessment and changing conditions according to unit policy.
  • Effective Parent Education & Discharge Planning: Develop and implement teaching/discharge plans for parents/families, covering neonatal care and illness management, ensuring understanding through feedback and return demonstrations, and involving other caregivers as needed.
  • Interdisciplinary Communication & Patient Advocacy: Act as a role model for patient satisfaction, demonstrating AIDET principles, and consistently communicating with the healthcare team and families regarding the neonate's needs to ensure coordinated and compassionate care.

Required

  • One year of NICU Staff RN Experience
  • Registered Nurse: CA
  • Basic Life Support - CPR
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program, within 6 - months
