About this role

RURAL OUTREACH SPECIALIST


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a human service field or a degree in a relevant discipline will also be considered. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator willing to engage in community-based activities focused on changing social norms, attitudes, and behaviors. They will bring a mix of initiative, collaboration, and adaptability to the team, backed by strong time management and problem-solving skills. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, have access to personal transportation and be willing to travel from office to local and county schools for presentations and training. Experience/knowledge in violence prevention is preferred.


COMPENSATION: $18.27-27.40 per hour based on education and experience.  A generous leave package including annual leave, sick leave and personal days; 11 paid holidays; health, dental, vision, and life insurance; mileage reimbursement for travel, 403(b) with employer match; and potential eligibility for federal student loan forgiveness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

School Activities

  • Attend meetings at the beginning of each school year with Grand Forks County rural school principals and counselors to maintain relationships, coordinate violence prevention efforts, and identify additional program needs.
  • Collaborate with rural schools to deliver risk and protective factor surveys.
  • Build and foster relationships with school personnel.
  • Provide support and facilitation for a wide range of age-appropriate violence prevention curricula and one-time presentations.
  • Develop presentation packets and other printed material related to prevention presentations.

 

Public Education, Training and Awareness Activities

  • Participate in primary prevention training on-line and at the local, state, and national level.
  • Deliver training and presentations to youth, community members, and professionals as needed.
  • Develop training packets and other printed materials related to prevention training.
  • Participate in primary prevention training activities, as available and within the scope of this position’s funding.
  • Conduct community outreach to organizations such as, but not limited to, community agencies, elementary, middle, and high schools, alternative school settings, local businesses, and other agencies in the community.


Individual Support and Advocacy

  • Assess abuse and sexual assault situations reported and make appropriate decisions regarding intervention to enhance the safety of the student.
  • Demonstrate professional listening skills while assisting students in identifying options, establishing goals, and developing skills.
  • Be familiar with area agencies and services and provide students with appropriate referral information.
  • Provide emotional support to youth at Grand Forks County schools as needed.
  • Hold office hours at Grand Forks County rural school as needed for advocacy support.
  • Connect families with CVIC and other community services.


Committees and Meetings

  • Participate in collaborative project partner
  • Attend CVIC staff meetings.
  • Participate in Prevention and Education meetings.
  • Attend other committee meetings as assigned.


Record Keeping

  • Collaborate with stakeholders for data collection (school surveys, curriculum data, and other identified data sources).
  • Assist with the data collection and analysis of the risk and protective factor school survey in rural schools.
  • Compile agency training evaluations.


Other duties as assigned 

  • Table at school and community events.
  • Weeknight and weekend presentations and tabling as needed.
