About this role

Our Purpose

Here at Datacom we connect people and technology in order to solve challenges, create opportunities and discover new possibilities for the communities we live in.

Our Team

We offer a path to align your career with your lifestyle and your inquisitive nature. As our Salesforce practice continues to grow, we're creating exciting opportunities for experienced professionals across New Zealand to shape the future of our platform capabilities.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Salesforce Technical Architect to lead the design, governance, and evolution of scalable, secure, and high-performing Salesforce solutions across our organisation.

This is a senior leadership role — you will own architectural decisions, define technical strategy, and ensure our Salesforce ecosystem aligns with long-term product goals, release commitments, and exceptional end-user experiences. You'll work at the intersection of business and technology, translating complex requirements into elegant, maintainable solutions.

What You'll Do

Architecture & Design

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture across Salesforce Industry Clouds and integrated systems
  • Define and enforce architectural principles, design patterns, and governance frameworks across the Salesforce estate
  • Design scalable data models, security architectures (sharing rules, field-level security, Shield), and integration strategies
  • Make build vs. buy vs. configure recommendations grounded in platform best practices and business value
  • Architect event-driven and API-led integration solutions (REST, SOAP, Platform Events, Change Data Capture, MuleSoft)

Technical Leadership

  • Provide authoritative technical guidance during solution design, proposal development, and delivery phases
  • Own and maintain architectural documentation, technical diagrams (C4, UML), decision records, and standards
  • Lead architectural reviews and drive technical debt identification and remediation
  • Support product and delivery leaders with technical planning, estimation, and risk assessment

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver robust, well-governed solutions
  • Mentor and uplift developers, senior developers, and technical leads on architecture principles, design patterns, and Salesforce best practices

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with internal engineering standards, government regulations, and industry best practices
  • Champion DevOps maturity — CI/CD pipelines, source control (Salesforce DX, Git), automated testing, and release management
  • Drive org health, technical hygiene, and platform performance optimisation (governor limits, LDV strategies, async patterns)

What You'll Bring

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in software development or engineering, with 5+ years focused on Salesforce architecture and solution design
  • Proven experience designing complex integrations (REST, SOAP, middleware/iPaaS, Platform Events)
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce data architecture, security models, and multi-cloud/multi-org strategies
  • Experience with Salesforce DX, CI/CD tooling (Copado, Gearset, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to create and present architectural documentation and technical diagrams to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a talent for simplifying complexity

Highly Desirable:

  • Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA) — or actively pursuing
  • Application Architect and/or System Architect credentials
  • Platform Developer II certification
  • Strong knowledge of MuleSoft, Data Cloud, Einstein AI/GPT, or OmniStudio
  • Familiarity with Industries clouds
  • Knowledge of large data volume (LDV) strategies, Shield Platform Encryption, and Event Monitoring
  • Experience working in government, enterprise, or regulated environments
  • Exposure to broader cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
