Eurofins Professional Scientific Service® (PSS) is a global insourcing solution for our customers. Together with the customer, we define a project for the required services that our Eurofins employees should provide at the customer's location. During the ongoing project, the responsibility for project management, the previously defined laboratory services and the deployment of our employees in this project lies with Eurofins PSS.

Job Description

  • Perform and optimize virus-based assays, including:
    • Virus titration (e.g., TCID50, plaque assays, or equivalent methods)
    • Infection experiments in mammalian cell lines 
  • Conduct cell culture activities:
    • Maintenance and preparation of cell lines
    • Seeding, infection, and assay preparation
  • Ensure smooth workflow of automated processes:
    • Method setup, execution, and troubleshooting
    • Routine maintenance and calibration
    • Monitoring system performance and data quality 
  • Work in biosafety cabinet environments under appropriate containment levels:
    • Strict adherence to biosafety and GMP/GLP guidelines (if applicable)
    • Handling of viral materials according to safety protocols 
  • Operate and maintain an integrated automated assay platform including:
    • Hamilton liquid handling system
    • Cell-based plate reader
    • Imaging system for analysis (e.g., cell imaging / viral readouts)
  • Data handling and analysis: 
    • Review assay outputs (plate reader & imaging data)
    • Ensure proper documentation and reporting
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (automation, virology, data science) to improve assay robustness and throughput
  • Support of virus spike runs on Process Scale Down Models (ÄKTA) and sampling for later analysis

 

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Virology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or related field
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Hands-on experience with cell culture techniques (mammalian systems)
    • Practical knowledge of virology techniques, especially virus titration methods
    • Experience working with viral systems in laboratory settings
  • Automation & Technical Skills:
    • Experience with automated liquid handling systems (preferably Hamilton or similar platforms)
    • Familiarity with plate-based assays and detection technologies
    • Exposure to integrated robotic platforms combining liquid handling and analytics
    • Knowledge of Protein Purification Systems (ÄKTA) and downstream bioprocess considered a plus.
  • Laboratory Environment:
    • Experience working in a BSL-2 (Biosafety Level 2) laboratory environment is required
    • Strong awareness of biosafety procedures and compliance
