Responsibilities

This role will perform various duties related to the financial reporting process. Areas of responsibility include GAAP/Stat financial statement preparation and reporting, insurance and reinsurance accounting, reconciliations and monitoring cash flow.  All functions focus on both accurate and timely completion based on the close schedule. This role works closely with the Director, Controller and CFO on a monthly basis and additionally will: 

  • Perform month-end close activities including journal entries, supporting schedules and analysis, meeting all due dates per closing schedule.
  • Perform accounting, reconciliation and reporting to include but not limited to:
    • Process and analyze IBNR
    • Analyze Deferred Acquisition Costs and Earned Premium
    • Prepare month-end data balancing and review
    • Work with affiliates monthly, in recording and balancing assumed business
    • Analyze and reconcile bank statements and internal general ledger accounts (including analysis and resolution of reconciling items)
    • Prepare month end Market Condition Report and Corporate Dashboard
  •  Monthly reporting of account currents and settlement of open balances on a timely basis, including monitoring and coding cash settlements, research and resolve open receivable balances, and unapplied cash items monthly
  • Perform various tasks and analysis
  • Calculate and analyze premium estimates
  • Assumed Reinsurance Contract Analysis and premium & loss processing
  • Monitor contracts for profit commission
  • Responsible for the accuracy of results for assigned programs and contracts.
  • Prepare analysis and utilize reporting tools to obtain information from the general ledger and/or financial data warehouse as required to assist with the reconciliation and analytic duties related to position 
  • Assist in the completion of the Quarterly Sch P and Sch F
  • Assist in Annual Budget Project
  • Assists in the support of internal and external audits/examinations and SOX
  • Active pursuit of continuous process improvement and progress measurement (metrics)
  • Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting
  • CPA a plus
  • Insurance Accounting experience required
  • Reinsurance accounting experience a plus
  • Insurance accounting experience is essential
  • Reinsurance experience is a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills (including LookUps, Pivot Tables, index matching)
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and other accounting control principles
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task with minimal supervision
  • Highly organized, attentive to detail and analytical
  • Strong problem solving Initiative and self-motivated
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

 

Additional Company Details

This role is based in Naperville, IL in-office four days per week. We do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting firms. The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role includes: Base Salary Range: $90,000 - 110,000. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
