WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is not available for a hybrid telework workweek 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Develops, supports, and manages systems and structures for transition to kindergarten, family engagement, community outreach, and community partnership activities. Serves as a building administrator for Project Enlightenment and provides leadership and supervision for teams that support transition to kindergarten and family engagement initiatives. Builds and enhances communication and partnerships with childcare centers, families, schools, agencies, and community organizations. Collaborates with departments, schools, agencies, and community groups to ensure coordinated and responsive efforts that support children, families, and educators. Plans and implements professional development activities and community outreach initiatives for staff and stakeholders.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Title I and Special Education legislation and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to the programs;

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) and North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten guidance and assurances;

  • Considerable knowledge of best practices with family engagement to support the needs of families from

  • diverse background and various styles;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;

  • Demonstration of leadership and team building skills;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to execute presentations, including adult learning techniques;

  • Ability to provide leadership in outreach, public relations, and communications;

  • Ability to work independently to effectively solve problems in complex work situations and handle highly

  • confidential material;

  • Ability to develop and implement strategic objectives aligned with school system mission and goals;

  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget;

  • Ability to coach and mentor employees;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Child Development, Educational Administration, or related field;

  • Five years of teaching in an elementary school or a preschool facility.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License for School Administrator, Principal, or Curriculum Instructional Specialist;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience planning, coordinating, and facilitating professional learning opportunities for educators, families, and community partners;

  • Knowledge of community agencies, early childhood organizations, and family support resources that serve children and families;

  • Experience supporting community outreach and family engagement initiatives within school or early childhood settings;

  • Ability to work flexible hours, as needed (evenings, weekends).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership for the development, coordination, and implementation of transition to kindergarten, family engagement, community outreach, and community partnership initiatives.

  • Serves as a building administrator for Project Enlightenment and supports daily operations, communication systems, and organizational leadership functions.

  • Provides leadership, supervision, coaching, and support for teams responsible for transition to kindergarten, family engagement, outreach, and community partnership initiatives.

  • Develops systems and structures that strengthen communication and collaboration among childcare centers, families, schools, and community organizations during the transition to kindergarten process.

  • Aligns, develops, and supports family engagement and outreach activities across the department and Office of Early Learning initiatives.

  • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates professional learning opportunities, meetings, events, and collaborative initiatives for staff, educators, families, and community stakeholders.

  • Manages, analyzes, and reviews data, resources, and processes to support continuous improvement and effective program implementation.

  • Collaborates with district departments, schools, early learning programs, agencies, and community partners to ensure aligned and coordinated support for children, families, and educators.

  • Seeks, manages, and monitors budgets, grants, and resources that support educational programs, outreach efforts, and engagement initiatives.

  • Represents the Office of Early Learning on committees, community groups, and collaborative initiatives related to early childhood education, transition to kindergarten, and family engagement.

  • Supports the development and maintenance of websites, materials, resources, and communication systems related to early learning and transition to kindergarten initiatives.

  • Promotes community understanding and support through the development and maintenance of collaborative relationships and the effective use of community resources.

  • Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, research, and best practices related to early childhood education, family engagement, and transition to kindergarten initiatives. 

  • Evaluates findings and makes recommendations to improve programs and services.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
