About this role

Are you curious about AI and ready to bridge the gap between high-level strategy and production-ready code? Do you want to use your (Gen)AI knowledge and ML engineering skills to help fast-growing Climate Tech scale-ups build solutions that genuinely matter? At Enjins, you'll have the freedom to work with the latest technologies while creating real, lasting business value - all within a growth-oriented team that values collaboration, celebrates together, and includes everyone.

About us πŸš€

Since 2018, we've been engineering AI systems designed to deliver long-term, meaningful value. Operating from Utrecht and Berlin, we partner with innovative tech companies across Northwest Europe - including Groendus, SnappCar, Next Sense, Crisp and Beyond Weather - and actively prioritise partnerships in Climate Tech where our technology delivers measurable positive impact.

We build data & AI solutions. At Enjins, we operate with a product mindset, meaning we take full ownership of the technical lifecycle - from initial discovery to a scaling, production-grade engine that lives within our partners' infrastructure. At our core, we are engineers first: clean code, MLOps best practices, and system reliability. Our team is a growth-oriented group of engineers from diverse cultural, academic, and professional backgrounds.

What? [You'll be doing] πŸ‘€

As a Senior AI Engineer, you will work at the intersection of technical excellence and project leadership within our team of 20+ engineers. You will act as a hands-on technical lead in a consultancy context, ensuring the impact of AI applications for innovative Dutch and international clients.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own the full development and implementation of robust AI/ML applications, ensuring systems are scalable and production-ready.
  • Support the growth of our engineering team by sharing knowledge on technologies like Kubernetes, Airflow, and Kafka β€” and by mentoring more junior engineers.
  • Act as a technical partner for stakeholders, translating complex AI architectures into clear business value and human-centric impact.
  • Play an active role in building Enjins: participating in interviews and identifying new tools and methods that increase team velocity.

What success looks like

A concrete example: within your first months you might lead the deployment of a renewable-energy forecasting model for a Climate Tech client - end-to-end, from data pipeline to production API with full MLOps coverage. That's the kind of work we do.

Within 1 Month

  • Complete Enjins onboarding and become a certified cloud practitioner (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Start your first client project, working alongside an experienced Enjins engineer who acts as your buddy.
  • Meet your dedicated Coach and Buddy who support your first two months.

Within 3 Months

  • Take ownership of a client's AI/ML application from architecture through deployment.
  • Begin mentoring junior engineers and actively sharing knowledge within the team.

Within 6 Months

  • Drive measurable velocity improvements for your client.
  • Contribute to team growth - identifying tooling improvements and participating in the hiring process.

We're looking for pragmatic engineers who thrive on solving complex problems with clean, scalable code - whether your background is software engineering, data science, econometrics, or another quantitative field. If you're willing to expand your skills and grow, we want to hear from you.

Expertise & Skills πŸ”§

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience as an AI/ML Engineer, demonstrating a proven history of leading development projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and Git, with practical experience in containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, as well as ETL/ELT orchestration.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and a solid grasp of MLOps and LLMOps principles.
  • Background in designing or working with Agentic or LLM-based systems, including RAG pipelines and orchestration frameworks.
  • Knowledge of model evaluation, testing methodologies, and production monitoring practices.
  • Experience in technical consultancy environments is highly advantageous.

Mindset & Approach ✨

  • You prioritise 'production-ready' over 'academic hype' and are comfortable engaging with board-level stakeholders to achieve results.
  • You love discovering new programming languages and frameworks - our world is continuously evolving.
  • Able to translate technical findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences. Fluent in English.

We invest heavily in your journey, ensuring you remain at the technical forefront while growing as a professional.

Accelerate your Growth & Development 🧠

  • A dedicated personal training programme (AI-Leap) to improve your skills, plus 1-on-1 coaching from Leads and our C-level.
  • Become a certified cloud practitioner in your first month and dive straight into client projects.
  • Regular feedback moments and project assessments to ensure continuous professional evolution.
  • A specialised learning programme sharpening skills in leadership, stakeholder management, architecture, and Tech Due Diligence.
  • Two career tracks available: technical deepening or engineering leadership β€” your path to choose.

Innovation & Work Environment ⚑️

  • Work from our modern office in Utrecht along the Oudegracht.
  • Receive an Apple MacBook Pro and top-tier tools.
  • Competitive salary: €4,500 – €6,200 per month gross (excl. holiday allowance, pension, performance bonus, and AI-Leap benefits).
  • Annual Performance Bonus: Equivalent to 1.5 months' salary, recognising your individual contribution.

Work-life Balance & Culture πŸ‘

  • 28 vacation days β€” including flexibility for 3 national holidays.
  • Monthly social events: themed parties, sports tournaments, pub quizzes, and more.
  • Yearly Enjins Summer Summit: 2-day event deep diving into the intersection of AI x Climate
  • OV-First (Public Transport) travel policy, fully covering your commute.
  • Meat-free catering during events.
