Zayo is seeking an exceptionally strong employment attorney for our Senior Corporate Counsel - Employment Law position who is ready for accelerated learning and career growth. This role partners closely with Human Resources, executive leadership, and business stakeholders to provide practical, risk-based legal guidance.

Location: Zayo Corporate Headquarters - 1401 Wynkoop St, Denver, CO 80202 in a hybrid capacity (3 days - T/W/Th a week in office)

Key Responsibilities  

Employment Law

  • Provide day-to-day legal counsel to Human Resources and business leaders on a wide range of employment law matters, including recruiting, hiring, employee relations, performance management, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, disciplinary actions, restructurings, and terminations. 

  • Monitor and advise on emerging federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, including offer letters, employment agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, retention agreements, separation agreements, and executive employment arrangements. 

  • Advise on executive compensation and employment-related aspects of incentive and equity compensation programs in partnership with internal stakeholders.

  • Support labor relations matters, including collective bargaining strategy, union issues, and labor negotiations, as needed.

  • Conduct or oversee sensitive workplace investigations involving employment-related concerns.

  • ·Develop, review, and update employment policies, employee handbook provisions, and workplace procedures to ensure legal compliance and alignment with business objectives.

  • Design and deliver legal training for Human Resources, managers, and leadership on employment law topics, compliance obligations, and workplace best practices. 

  • Advise on employment-related aspects of corporate transactions, integrations, reorganizations, and other strategic business initiatives. 

  • Manage employment-related subpoenas, government inquiries, garnishments, personnel record requests, and other third-party information requests. 

Litigation and Dispute Resolution

  • Manage a wide range of pre-litigation and litigation matters globally 

  • Respond to and oversee matters involving the EEOC, Department of Labor, OSHA, state labor agencies, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Develop litigation strategy, assess legal exposure, and provide practical recommendations to business leaders.

  • Direct outside counsel to ensure efficient case management, high-quality legal representation, and cost-effective outcomes.

  • Lead internal discovery efforts, including document preservation, collection, witness preparation, and fact development. 

  • Support negotiation and resolution of disputes through mediation, settlement discussions, and other alternative dispute resolution processes.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Draft and maintain employment, workplace conduct, and safety-related policies.

  • Partner with Human Resources, Safety, and other teams to strengthen compliance programs.

Qualifications 

  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. 

  • Demonstrated experience managing employment litigation and administrative agency matters.

  • Experience conducting and advising on workplace investigations.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.  

  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels.  

  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.  

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.  

Education & Experience 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction (State of Colorado bar).  

  • Six to ten (6-10) years of legal experience with a focus on employment law. 

Estimated base salary range: $112,800 - $173,600 USD/annually

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.


Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
