To achieve our next phase of global growth, we are undertaking a massive engineering modernization effort. We are shifting from an output-driven traditional SDLC to an outcome-driven AI-Led Product Delivery Lifecycle (PDLC). As part of this, we are breaking down our legacy ASP.NET Core monolith into a highly scalable, modular service architecture and transitioning our engineering organization into cross-functional "Unified Ownership Squads."

This is an all-remote team and we’re looking for someone located in the U.S. with no preference for time zone. We do not offer visa sponsorship at this time.

THE ROLE

Bitwarden is looking for a deeply technical Principal Product Manager for Developer Foundations. In this role, you will act as the product owner for our internal AI enablement, DevOps, and internal tooling teams. Your "customers" are Bitwarden’s own software engineers, product managers, and designers.

Your mandate is simple but critical: build the automated toolchains, paved paths, and platform tooling that enable our Unified Ownership Squads to deliver software in a safer, speedier, and more predictable manner. As QA, SRE, and Build Tooling evolve from traditional siloed roles into unified Platform Teams, you will define the roadmap that empowers feature teams with self-serve automation, integrated AI, and continuous observability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define the Developer Foundations Roadmap: Own the vision and strategy for Bitwarden's internal developer platform, CI/CD pipelines, and automated quality gates, ensuring they align with our goals for high-performance, predictable product delivery.
  • Operationalize the AI-Led PDLC: Drive the integration of AI capabilities (such as GitHub Copilot, AI-driven test generation, and automated documentation) directly into developer workflows. Establish the platform-level governance and "trust but verify" human-in-the-loop guardrails required to scale AI safely.
  • Transform Operations into Tooling: Guide the transition of traditional QA and SRE capabilities into scalable, automated platform services that support our new end-to-end team ownership model.
  • Enable Modular Architecture: Partner with Architecture and Engineering leadership to support the transition from our codebase to an event-driven modular platform. Build the tools necessary for independent, rapid deployment of multiple secure products without massive, risky coordinated releases.
  • Enforce Ruthless Prioritization: Manage the intake and prioritization of internal tooling initiatives. Use data-driven Quarterly Commitments to ensure your teams are building the right infrastructure to reduce technical debt and remove downstream bottlenecks.
  • Measure Business Outcomes: Shift the focus from output to outcomes. Instrument our developer platforms to track and improve key metrics like deployment frequency, lead time, mean time to recovery (MTTR), escaped defects, and AI-assisted commit rates.

WHAT YOU BRING TO BITWARDEN

  • Deep Technical Expertise: 7+ years of product management experience, with a significant portion spent leading Platform Tooling, Developer Productivity, DevOps, or other Internal Tooling teams.
  • AI-Native Mindset: Proven experience evaluating, integrating, and governing AI-assisted development tools within a secure software development lifecycle.
  • Systems Architecture Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of modern distributed architectures, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and event-driven messaging. Familiarity with C#/.NET, Rust, or similar environments is highly preferred.
  • Security-First Orientation: Understanding of DevSecOps practices. You know how to build security, vulnerability scanning, and threat modeling directly into the initial design and continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Agile & Outcome-Driven: Experience leading teams through "ruthless prioritization" and shifting cultures from measuring story points and outputs to measuring customer and business outcomes.
  • Strong Communicator: Ability to write clear, concise Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and collaborate directly with highly technical stakeholders, including the CTO, VP of Engineering, and Principal Architects.

WHY BITWARDEN?

Bitwarden has built something rare in tech: a mission-driven company that proves open-source transparency and enterprise-grade security are both compatible and a competitive necessity. You will be stepping into an organization with a strong ownership culture, where bottom-up change is encouraged, and where your work will directly accelerate the delivery of security products trusted by millions worldwide.
