Job Description

Summary:

The Shipping/Receiving Clerk is responsible for plant logistics concerning material flow and storage of bare and coated steel, packaging materials, and miscellaneous items.Β  Should be responsive to the priorities of office personnel in determining daily activities.Β  It will be necessary to maintain contact with contract and customer carriers; therefore, warrants a pleasant and courteous disposition.Β  Shall arrange a timely schedule of truck arrival based on company needs control yard (truck) traffic.Β  This position requires basic math, reading, and writing skills.Β  Shall be required to assist in routine equipment maintenance, clean-up and miscellaneous duties associated with the plant activities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Communicate verbally and in writing with other departments of the plant concerning plant operations.
  • Regular and on-time attendance.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures
  • Collect and record data as directed by management.
  • Use crane and/or forklift to locate materials.
  • Access, input and retrieve information from a computer.
  • Identify, schedule, and ship materials according to specifications.
  • Place chains on coils in the steel bay.
  • Read and comprehend instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes, and/or procedural changes used in the area.
  • Visual acuity to read and identify materials.
  • Experience and ability to make quick decisions when supervision is not readily available.
  • Change propane tanks on forklifts.
  • Routine maintenance and clean-up of work area and equipment.
  • Perform miscellaneous plant duties.
  • Able to use scanners to update coil locations into the AS400

Qualifications

Critical Demands:

  • Hand, eye and feet coordination to operate fork trucks
  • Squat, kneel or stoop frequently to perform job duties
  • Reach or extend forward for long periods of time to perform job duties
  • Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as schedules, SOPs, work rules, etc.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Stamina to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ascend and descend stairs to reach all areas of plant
  • Perform work from ladders or platforms at various heights
  • Dexterity to operate computers in order to enter or retrieve information
  • Communicate verbally or in writing with others

  • Fork trucks, propane and electric
  • Overhead cranes
  • Upenders
  • Jib crane
  • Semi-automatic banding equipment
  • Various small hand tools
  • Power saw
  • Core cutter
  • Shears and knives
  • Coil grabbers
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Computers

Work Environment:

  • Periodic temperature extremes, includingΒ  temperatures over 90 degrees
  • Some work areas located on 2nd or 3rd floor
  • Concrete or asphalt floors
  • Possible exposure to high levels of noise
  • Possible exposure to dust
  • Periodic exposure to fumes from paints and chemicals used in coating processes

Job Requirements:

  • High school level reading and writing, visual acuity to read labels, meters, gauges, documents and instructions
  • Ability to work in an industrial or warehouse environment with fork lifts, cranes, etc.
  • Ability to safely operate small manual and electric hand tools
  • Ability to be flexible to the needs of PCM and our Customers.
  • Available to work up to 12 hours per day on rotating shifts, that could include weekends and holidays
