This is a full-time, W-2 employment opportunity supporting students in an in-person educational setting. Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Providing in-person American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for students in an educational setting
- Facilitating communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and teachers, peers, school staff, and other individuals
- Accurately interpreting spoken language into ASL and ASL into spoken English while maintaining the intended meaning and context
- Supporting student access to classroom instruction, educational activities, meetings, and other school-related interactions
- Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional standards and ethical guidelines
- Collaborating with educators and other members of the educational team to support student communication needs
- Preparing for assignments by reviewing relevant educational materials and terminology as appropriate
- Participating in meetings or professional development activities as required
Specific responsibilities may vary based on the assigned student(s), school location, and program needs.
Qualifications
- Meet all applicable state requirements for Sign Language Interpreter certification or licensure
- National certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) preferred
- Strong receptive and expressive American Sign Language (ASL) skills
- Ability to accurately interpret spoken and signed communication while maintaining context, meaning, and confidentiality
- Strong memory, attention to detail, and communication skills
- Commitment to ongoing continuing education and professional development
