Role Overview 

As a System Administrator II (Linux/Unix), you will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting Linux/Unix servers, networks, and applications, ensuring they remain secure, stable, and high-performing while supporting 24/7 operations. This is a full-time role based in the Mumbai office, requiring candidates to work five days a week and be flexible to operate in rotational shifts.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • System Installation and Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain Linux RHEL (9x, 8x, 7x, 6x) and OL (6x, 7x, 8x, 9x) operating systems.
  • Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor system performance, detect, diagnose, and resolve issues related to servers, hardware, applications, and software.
  • Routine Administration: Perform user management, file system management, backup/restore operations, and administer disk, volume groups, LVM, NFS, and automount.
  • System Upgrades and Patching: Implement system upgrades, patches, and handle post-patching issues, following best practices and changing management procedures.
  • Security and Vulnerability Management: Remediate vulnerabilities, manage firewalls (IPTABLES), and configure KDUMP for crash/kernel dump analysis.
  • Networking: Manage IP networking, static routing, and protocols such as FTP, SSH, SMTP, DNS, HTTP/S, DHCP, and Syslog logging.
  • Automation and Configuration Management: Use tools like Puppet, Ansible, or equivalent for automation and configuration management.
  • Monitoring and Documentation: Utilize SNMP-based monitoring, document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Virtualization and Storage: Manage VMWare vSphere, NAS configuration, SAN and NAS storage, and multipathing.
  • Incident and Problem Management: Participate in on-call rotations, respond to system emergencies, and provide RCAs on P1 tickets.
  • Collaboration and Vendor Coordination: Work with other IT teams to resolve cross-functional issues, ensure seamless integration with other systems, and coordinate with hardware vendors (HP ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge).
  • Email Administration: Troubleshoot mail issues (mailx, sendmail) and manage client-side LDAP configurations.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science / information technology / or equivalent stream.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or LPIC-1 are required.

Additional Requirements: 

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems, scripting, and associated technologies.
  • Additional Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, experience with performance tuning, and optimizing server configurations.
  • Experience: 3 years of proven experience as a System Administrator in a similar role.
  • Communication: Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Documentation: Proven ability to document work and work in a process-driven development environment.
