Sound and Production Director

Position Summary

The Sound and Production Director provides leadership for the church's sound, livestream, lighting, and production ministries by thoughtfully curating the technical elements that help create an environment where people can fully engage in worship. This position is responsible for building and equipping a healthy team of volunteers through recruitment, training, scheduling, coaching, and ongoing development in audio, video, lighting, and livestream production.

Essential Responsibilities

Volunteer Leadership

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and develop production volunteers.
  • Create and communicate volunteer schedules in coordination with the Worship Pastor.
  • Identify and develop volunteer team leaders who can serve and lead independently.
  • Promote a healthy team culture marked by reliability, humility, personal spiritual growth, and excellence.

Training and Systems

  • Develop clear training guides, operating procedures, and role expectations for production volunteers.
  • Create repeatable systems that help new volunteers learn and succeed.
  • Review, update, and maintain service-production checklists and troubleshooting procedures.
  • In coordination with the Worship Pastor, regularly evaluate training needs and provide practical coaching.

Audio Production

  • Provide oversight for Front of House (FOH) and livestream audio during weekend services, serving directly when scheduled and ensuring volunteers are prepared to serve independently.
  • Ensure audio is balanced, clear, and consistent for both the in-person congregation and online audience.
  • Train and coach volunteers to operate audio systems confidently and consistently.
  • Review service audio and recommend practical improvements.

Livestream & Video Production

  • Provide oversight and guidance for the church’s livestream video production.
  • Train volunteers in camera operation, video switching, and livestream procedures.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and develop plans that minimize disruption and downtime.
  • Maintain a consistent, reliable, and distraction-free online worship experience.



Equipment & Production Systems

  • Develop and maintain an organized system for storing, labeling, and managing audio, video, and livestream equipment.
  • Regularly inspect production equipment and report needed repairs or recommended upgrades to the Worship Pastor.
  • Ensure the production area remains clean, organized, secure, and service-ready.


Lighting

  • Prepare and adjust lighting scenes that appropriately support worship services.
  • Work with the Worship Pastor to ensure lighting contributes to the worship environment without becoming distracting.
  • Train additional volunteers to operate approved lighting scenes and systems.


Ministry Collaboration

  • Collaborate with pastors, worship leaders, and ministry staff to support weekly services and special events.
  • Recruit and coordinate production volunteers and teams for special events and services
  • Communicate production needs, limitations, and service plans clearly and in advance
  • Participate in relevant worship-planning and staff meetings

A successful Sound and Production Director will:

  • Build and maintain a healthy, dependable, and spiritually engaged volunteer production team.
  • Provide clear and consistent audio, lighting, video, and livestream support for worship services.
  • Develop volunteers who can serve confidently and independently.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding equipment condition and technical needs, and recommend appropriate improvements or upgrades.
  • Lead with humility, reliability, excellence, and a heart for discipleship.



Immediate Ministry Priorities

  • Establish organized and repeatable production systems that support continued ministry growth.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for current sound and production volunteers.
  • Create a practical training manual that documents current procedures and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop role-specific training resources that help volunteers serve consistently and grow in confidence.


Specific requests :

  • Help plan and prepare worship sets with Worship Pastor.
  • Alternate with Worship Pastor in leading on Sundays as worship leader once the production and sound department is running smoothly.
  • Mentor and develop worship team members as opportunities arise.
  • Assist with training and equipping worship team members on community worship nights.
