Responsibilities

As a Special Populations Support Specialist, you'll provide direct support to Pre-K through 8th-grade students with diverse learning, behavioral, communication, and mobility needs across multiple school campuses. This unique district-wide role places you where needs are greatest, giving you the opportunity to work across grade levels, collaborate with a variety of educators and specialists, and build meaningful relationships throughout the district.

While you will not serve as the teacher of record or case manager, you will play an important role in helping students access learning, build independence, and fully participate in the school day. Beyond your direct work with students, you'll help strengthen learning environments, support educators, and contribute to the success of the broader school community.

  • Student Support
    • Provide direct support to students with diverse academic, behavioral, communication, social-emotional, and mobility needs throughout the school day.
    • Deliver one-on-one and small-group support during instruction, classroom activities, transitions, and daily routines.
    • Foster student engagement, independence, self-advocacy, and meaningful participation in classroom and school activities.
  • IEP & Learning Support
    • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including accommodations, modifications, services, and behavior support plans.
    • Reinforce instructional and behavioral strategies that help students access learning and make progress toward their goals.
    • Help maintain safe, structured, and supportive learning environments where students can thrive.
  • Collaboration & District Impact
    • Partner with teachers, therapists, administrators, families, and other service providers to support student growth and well-being.
    • Monitor student progress, communicate observations, and contribute to problem-solving and planning efforts.
    • Serve multiple campuses throughout the district, adapting to evolving needs while supporting educators and promoting effective practices across schools

    • Bachelor's degre or abovee from an accredited college or university
    • Experience for at least 1 year as a paraprofessional, instructional assistant, Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), ABA therapist, and/or student support professional in a school setting
    • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, childcare, youth development, behavioral health, or related setting
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
    • Ability to work effectively with students who have diverse learning and support needs
    • Ability to adapt to changing assignments, school environments, and student needs
    • Ability to travel between assigned campuses
    • Ability to meet district background check and employment requirements, including background checks

Preferred Qualificaitons

    • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field
    • Experience supporting students with IEPs, disabilities, or specialized learning needs
    • At least 1 year of xperience working with children or adolescents in an educational, childcare, youth development, behavioral health, or related setting
    • ABA experience or behavior intervention training
  • Location: Franklin, TN
  • Position Type: Part-Time, with opportunities for a full-time position
  • Compensation: $60–$90 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
  • Projected Hours: Anticipated 25–35 hours per week, with flexibility based on district needs and candidate availability
  • Schedule: School-day hours
  • School Assignments: Support multiple schools throughout the district based on student needs
  • Start Date: ASAP, ideally Mid-August 2026
