Job Purpose
Purpose of the Post
• To deliver a high-quality Acute Speech & Language Therapy Service to Acute Inpatients of Connolly Hospital, in accordance with the National Clinical Programme for Stroke and National Standards of Professional Clinical Practice (e.g. IASLT, RCSLT, CORU, NHSCPO)• To work collaboratively with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the population it serves in line with the objectives of the organisation• To report to and collaborate with the Acute Speech & Language Therapist Manager to ensure the co-ordination, development and delivery of a quality, client centred speech & language therapy service for patients of Connolly Hospital, and communication as appropriate across and between networks in the geographical area• To carry out clinical and educational duties as pertinent to the role as directed by the Acute Speech & Language Therapist Manager and Senior Hospital Management of Connolly Hospital.

Essential Criteria
Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post possess:
1a. Professional Qualifications & Experience
(i) B registered, or eligible for registration, as a Speech and Language Therapist by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU
And
(ii) Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 year full time) post qualification clinical experience And
(iii) Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the officeAnd
(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Speech and Language Therapists Register maintained by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
2. Annual Registration
(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Speech and Language Therapists Register maintained by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORUAnd
(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
3. HealthA candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
4. CharacterEach candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Post Specific Requirements• Speech & Language Therapists who work with people with feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties must hold a dysphagia qualification or equivalent as outlined in “Standards of Practice for Speech & Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)”, Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT) 2007.• The post holder must hold a recognized Professional Dysphagia Qualification and have been practicing in the area of Clinical Dysphagia Management to meet IASLT Standards of Practice (2007) as above.• Candidate must demonstrate depth & breadth of speech and language therapy experience in an acute hospital setting relevant to the role.
