Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers' accounting team serves as the steward of our financial information and controls to ensure compliance with all internal policies and external requirements. The team creates transparency about the health of the company by providing timely, accurate, and actionable information to all stakeholders.

As a Sr Accountant, you will be responsible for timely and accurate books and records for reporting to both internal and external parties while maintaining a strong control environment. Leveraging your investment accounting background, you will conduct financial activities such as preparing, evaluating, and completing financial activities including journal entries, payment requests, and reconciliations for fixed income assets.

What Will You Do?

  • Compile, review, and analyze financial data for variance analysis, reporting, and accuracy.
  • Support the development of complex financial analyses by providing data and developing financial analyses for key performance metrics (i.e. production, profitability, expense management, staffing).
  • Prepare and begin to create analyses to support financial/business plans, budget, and forecasts.
  • Prepare and complete a review of assigned components for internal management based financial reporting, both routine and ad hoc, for complete and consistent results with corporate policies and standards.
  • Prepare external financial statements which may include GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SEC and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles).
  • Perform financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Prepare and review documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Provide coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, and/or professional designations, such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
  • Experience with accounting theory and practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with business partners.
  • Ability to analyze data to interpret trends and provide insights to management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle shifting priorities.
  • Ability to foresee challenges and proactively look for ways to create more efficient processes for the business.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), PeopleSoft and Financial Reporting Software (e.g., Investment Accounting Systems, Bloomberg, Foxit PDF Editor, Adobe Pro, Hyperion, etc.).

What is a Must Have?

  • Two years of finance, accounting, financial planning, or related experience.
