As a Senior Manager, Data Privacy Counsel supporting Alcon’s global Privacy and Technology Law organization, you will be trusted to serve as a legal advisor on privacy, technology, and data protection matters. Working primarily with stakeholders in the United States and Canada, with opportunities to support Latin America and global initiatives, you will help Alcon responsibly use, protect, and govern personal information by providing practical, risk-based legal advice that enables innovation, commercial activity, and compliance across the business.

In this individual contributor role, a typical day will include:

  • Leading privacy and technology contract negotiations across data processing agreements, business associate agreements, and other commercial contracts, balancing legal and regulatory risk with practical business needs.

  • Supporting privacy and ethics by design in products, technologies, services, digital activities, and business initiatives by assessing risks and requirements related to personal information, advising on appropriate controls, and collaborating with stakeholders throughout the initiative lifecycle.

  • Conducting and supporting privacy assessments across the organization, including evaluating data uses, healthcare privacy requirements, contractual obligations, cross-border considerations, and appropriate risk-mitigation measures.

  • Advising on incident response strategy when personal information may be impacted, including helping assess affected data, potential privacy implications and mitigations, and contractual and regulatory requirements, including potential reporting to relevant parties.

  • Supporting organizational growth and continuous improvement by advising on the integration of acquired entities and products, taking ownership of privacy negotiation practices and processes, and strengthening organizational privacy capabilities through guidance and training.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON

  • A law degree and authorization to practice law in an applicable jurisdiction.

  • Eight or more years of relevant legal experience, including substantial experience advising on healthcare data privacy, technology, commercial contracting, or adjacent regulatory compliance matters.

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating privacy and technology provisions in data processing agreements, business associate agreements, and other complex commercial agreements.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare privacy and technology legal requirements, including HIPAA or comparable healthcare privacy frameworks, with the ability to apply legal requirements to practical business situations.

  • Experience supporting privacy assessments, privacy and ethics by design, incident response, digital marketing, data governance, and the integration of acquired businesses or products.

  • Experience advising stakeholders across different functions, organizational levels, cultures, and geographies. Exposure to United States, Canadian, Latin American or global privacy requirements is highly valued.

  • Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to draft and negotiate complex legal terms and communicate effectively with global stakeholders.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, including patience, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to explain complex privacy matters in clear, business-oriented terms.

  • A proactive and resourceful approach to problem-solving, with intellectual curiosity and the ability to develop creative, risk-based solutions.

  • The independence and ownership needed to manage competing priorities, combined with a collaborative, team-focused mindset.

  • An International Association of Privacy Professionals certification, such as CIPP, CIPM, or AIGP is preferred but not required.
