Staff Field Integration and Quality Engineer
About this role
About ALSO.
We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.
ALSO is looking for a Staff Field Integration and Quality Engineer to lead the integration of drive units, batteries, inverters, displays, and various low voltage electronics.
What You'll Do
Assist in the new product introduction of new products and platforms, presenting findings to engineering teams and leadership to drive resolution
Perform hands-on troubleshooting using proprietary CAN tools — reproduce faults, pull logs, decode DTCs, run isolation tests, identify root cause (HW vs FW vs calibration vs harness), and validate fixes with structured re-tests
Support pilot and fleet running, including prepping vehicles for pilots, commissioning telematics, and closing the loop with field ops on uptime
Maintain and update fleet firmware using OTA updates, and maintain and update service troubleshooting manuals based on new learnings
Work with service partners to gather additional insight into field failures, and travel to customer locations to gather insight on failure modes
Stand up processes to review incoming telemetry data to gather trends on product health and reliability, estimate component repair/replacement needs and costs, and drive design and diagnostic changes based on real-world data
Build clear data visualization tools and dashboards to support telemetry data ingest
Process field return parts to determine root cause using 8D
Train technicians and service professionals on service tools and new processes
What You'll Bring
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
5+ years of professional experience with embedded systems, including 3+ years working on new product introduction
Hands-on electronics and HV awareness, comfortable working around systems up to 100V+ (per local regs) using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, CAN analyzers, and HV PPE
Working knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, CAN FD, SPI) and Vector tools
Exposure to service tools and cloud services, with basic SQL and Python skills to process data
Familiarity with planning and organization tools such as JIRA/Confluence
Ability to define and request new features on the vehicle and in the cloud to support engineering needs
Powertrain and charging basics, including BMS fundamentals (cell balancing, SoC/SoH), motor/inverter concepts (FOC, torque limits, derates), charger protocols, and safety interlocks for swap and plug-in charging
Test discipline: following DVP&R, writing reproducible test cases, maintaining clear logs, tagging firmware/hardware revisions, and tracing faults through to fix and verification
Comfortable traveling up to 50% of the time to support cross-functional collaboration, site visits, and business priorities
The salary for this position ranges from $200,000 - $220,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
