About this role

Overview

Our Charlotte, NC office is looking for a Substation Physical Designer with 10+ years of experience to join our Power Delivery team!

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the design and preparation of the following substation drawings:
    • Substation one-lines and three-lines
    • Station general arrangements and sections
    • Electrical details
    • Grounding plan and details
    • Conduit plan and details
    • Control cubicle layout, sections, cable tray, lighting, and grounding
    • Low-voltage AC panels
    • Grounding
    • Lightning protection
    • Illumination
  • Development of bills of materials and general arrangements from substation one-line diagrams

  • Coordination with protection and controls, civil/structural, and drafting disciplines to ensure quality deliverables

  • Participation in client meetings and site visits for data gathering, as required

  • Interpretation and incorporation of vendor information into design deliverables

  • Application of client standards related to the work

  • Performing and ensuring the company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are followed for all design packages

  • Continuous improvement of job-related engineering, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Substation Physical design 
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associates degree preferred)
  • Knowledge of substation design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of technical drawings and models
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Willingness to mentor and teach others
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter
